I'm curious what everyone thinks of the currently syndicated WOLFMAN JACK show which is actually classic rebroadcasts his legendary show. If you haven't heard it, it airs Mon-Fri from 11am-1pm central time on OldiesRadio 1520 at http://www.q1520radio.com

WQMA does stream.

By the way, check out the rest of the programming schedule for Dick Clark, Casey Kasem, Mike Harvey, and others.

Wolfman On The Radio

Just what Oldies DOESN'T need these days- another thing to tie the format to Happy Days.

Just what "Oldies" radio DOES need these days. Anything past 1970 ain't Oldies. Get your own format.

Hmm, well it sounds like Wolfman can please both groups here. The first hour of his show is dedicated to the earlier oldies stopping around 1969. The second hour is dedicated primarily to the 70's with a hint of the early 80's.

Did anyone listen that has an opinion on it? http://www.q1520radio.com

Very cool schedule . . . Hope no one on eBay buys the station before I have a chance to listen. :)

Wolfman On The Radio

Right- and your kind of Oldies station is dying on the vine.

Anybody who truly believes no 70s music belongs on oldies is in serious denial and can count the days until that kind of oldies stations gets nuked (not my opinion- look around the country, it's going on EVERYWHERE). Most of today's successful Oldies stations are playing a healthy diet of 70s.

No doubt about that. And as Clark Gable once said: "Frankly, I don't give a damn". I subscribe to satellite radio!

Right again. So why doesn't commercial radio just give up the Oldies ghost, call it Classic Rock, and get on with it. Let them milk that format for another 3 or 4 years. Then when that format dies they can program infomercials 24/7.

It must be the same fascination that draws us to a train wreck.

I am in favor of a new rule.

Those who have given up on terrestrial radio are no longer allowed to comment on it.
______________

You've got it all wrong. It's terrestrial radio that has given up on US............those of us who have been listening to radio since Top 40 radio was born. A generation of listeners who turned on their radios in the morning and left them on all day. Terrestrial radio is the only business I know of that developes a solid customer base for 40+ years, then just tosses those customers away when they "move out of the demo". And yes, all of the lame reasons for that HAVE been discussed on this board.

I like this thought. The satellite business model unfairly puts a lot of stockholders, store employees or business affiliates to these message boards pushing the product that they have an alternate interest in.

I don't see how you can say satellite radio beats the content of the link I posted (WQMA) on a weekend. Wolfman Jack, Dick Clark, Mike Harvey, Casey Kasem, etc. vs WHO? Yeah, they may be charging you a premium but you are NOT getting premium programming. Seems to be a lot of voicetracked so-so stuff to me.

Virtually every good thing that satellite radio has going for it came from AM/FM radio. Most of the content still airs there. The only exclusive bigname personality satradio will have is Stern, AGAIN plucked from free radio, and you could argue that he's past his prime.

What other things in life that you are currently receiving for free would you like to be charged for in the future?

I'll chime in with my opinion now that I've read some others - I think Wolfman Jack sounds GREAT. The show I'm listening to now (Wednesday) is amazing and I'm surprised anyone who likes oldies could find anything to complain about it. Since I've been listening (over one hour), I've only heard 2 minutes of commercials too.

I assure you that I'm not a stockholder, employee, or business affiliate. Just a former terrestrial radio listener who was discarded by them when I "moved out of their demo". And I was very angry about that..........until satellite radio came along. Now I just sit back, smile, and watch terrestrial radio self-destruct.

Try listening to Alex Ward, Matt The Cat, Cool Bobby B, and Rockabilly Road Trip on XM's channel 5.

Of course it did. Remember, Brett Farve once played with the Atlanta Falcons. They gave up on him and traded him to Green Bay.

I'm guessing that you're listening on the internet. Unless you're listening at work, you're paying for internet access. And unless you're listening on dial-up (with crappy reception), you're paying through the nose for that access!

And I maintain that those who do not listen to terrestrial radio are unqualified to comment on it. You want to listen to your satellite radio, fine. Just don't come here and expect us to take you seriously when you critique the medium you have chosen to stop listening to.

I pay for DSL, which I use for a lot more than online listening. Your argument is specious, because it parallels paying for cable or satellite television ... or even for your satellite radio. Just as no one pays for the latter to get a single channel, no one pays for Internet access just to listen to online radio.
______________

I guess I hit a nerve. Sorry about that. I'll try to restrain myself from now on and gloat in private.

what is Oldies

Oldies-type radio in 2005 is 60s & 70s hits, centered at about 1971 or so.

You'll have to excuse the previous poster- another old Oldies hanger-on who refuses to accept the reality that 50s & 60s brand Oldies is no longer viable to be competitive in the 25-54 sales arena.

Re: what is Oldies

>> >Yes you will have to excuse me, I thought that you were saying oldies
were not songs that were charted around 1970. I am fully aware that songs
from the 50s and 60s are not listened to on the radio, and commercial
advertizers are not intrested in a format like this. The old geezers whom
would like this type of format, even though they are the ones that would
have the greatest amount of disposable income, are now entering that phase
of life known as waiting to die... (you know what I mean)
