Wolfman Jack gone ten years

Missed this one on the proper date, but July 1 made 10 years since the Wolfman left us. Surely he made a couple of rolls in his grave when the Telecommunications Act was passed the following year, but then again, he used to tape his syndicated all-request show in advance and do custom fill-ins for local stations ("This one goes out to Bob and Sue listening in Bedford tonight..."--the local station, KLUV in this case in the 80s, would send him an advance list of made-up names and cities), which is about as pre-cursor as it gets to voicetracking.

I remember writing many of those lines for Wolfman!
He initially was just saying things like "hello Dallas Fort Worth" and we started sending him lines like "if you're sitting at the intersection of Lemmon and Mockingbird right now, someone in traffic around you wanted me to play this song for you!" or "how hot does the Doran Chevy sign say it is right now, 'cause up here it sure is hot!". Would love to hear any tapes of that.
I don't know what happened to them, but they way they did the show was to send reels of shows that they would continue to do and add to your collection..there were hundreds of reels and you just mixed and matched different reels each week so the show would be different. Did anyone make off with all those Wolfman reels?

While you're at it, check out another great jock on the site (in my opinion), Lee "Baby" Simms -- KCBQ 1970, WMYQ Miami 1974, KRLA Los Angeles ('Ol Doc Frail), KTSA San Antonio, San Francisco and many other stops on the universe.
