WOLT 103.3

Interesting, but what I'm hearing is that it's still dayparted. Is oldies/drake still on the station or is it 24/7 SPIN?

I don't know how it's operated, but Spin could have bought the 6pm-6am airtime and weekend airtime that had been classic hits with option to purchase the other slots that are currently sold as they come available (come on, aside from Bill Drake and Beach Bob, nothing on there has lasted very long).

I've updated our website to reflect the times you can jam on the Spin...The bulk of the time will be 6pm-6am Monday - Friday sans sports coverage with Furma/Clemson.
www.wolt-fm.com
Logo and such will come later. Honestly, wasn't really ready for all that but it's a new day and age and there are no secrets in radio. Drake, Skip and Bob are all still on. However, Skip is honoring the King by taking some time off on the MLK day. Catch a few extra daytime hours of Spin FM on 9am-1p later this morning/day. But - to be sure, Drake will do what he does, Skip will be rockin' it out and Bob will still be hitting the beach. Does it make sense? Does anyone's IPod?

Out of market? We stream with Live365 who have an app for Iphone and droid search wolt_fm. Or, there's the Tune In App as well for both.

SPIN(TM) is a CHR-based format, but with an emphasis on building TSL and incorporating PPM strategy. It's a different delivery of the top hits, it's doing something unique that you won't find on the radio or even through the Internet or iTunes right now. It's about providing something different and compelling, and a reason to tune in-- because the blend or transition to the next song will almost always be something you haven't heard before because it is new. Right now, this soft launch is a testbed for other markets. We are trying to gauge what works and what doesn't. It's an opportunity to see the results firsthand in a live environment, rather than through projections. So the programming may eventually skew one direction or the other, depending on the market. We are finishing up imaging at the moment, and we're finalizing other agreements with the parties involved. I'll be happy to share any pertinent and relevant information so long as it doesn't violate or affect any sensitive agreements in place.

Meanwhile, I'm keeping busy also keeping spin control in check. I welcome any questions, and I'm always open to debate. I just want to make sure that people understand what is transpiring in the proper context. Though we have had thrilling success with the industry, JamTraxx Media is not just a "mixshow company" or "that company that loves dance music." There are some news reports saying that we are launching a "dance station." That is simply not the case. There are reports that we have bought the time. That is definitely not the case. There are reports that the brokered shows will be ditched as soon as possible. That is not the case, either. It's hard, almost impossible, to correct these news sources, but I want to try my best to nip any inaccuracies in the bud.

Davidson has contracts with their third party program brokers and they honor their agreements. They are just exploring new programming avenues and revenue streams with us, and we are happy to help them. We've been wanting to try this out for a long time, and we are fortunate to be able to work with great partners in a Top 60 radio market. This is a way for everyone to try their hand at something different, and get some good publicity and data in the process. Neither of us are looking at flipping the station 24/7 at this time. That's just simply not the point of this exercise right now. Enjoy it for the moment! I am curious to see what type of reaction will be generated in the market via listener input, the Facebook page, and of course, reaction and ratings from the CHRs in the market.

Once the web stream server has been upgraded, we'll post the link for you to sample. I'm always curious to hear what even the armchair quarterbacks have to say. LOL.

Kind regards,
JD

What JD is saying is true regarding our part.

BTW - If you are having trouble with streaming, you'll need a player that works with AAC+V2 coded streams. There may an issue with past apps vs. our old stream.

Works already with Iphone and Winamp.

If you have an Android phone download XiiaLive Lite (Free) formerly DroidLive....works perfectly.

On regular computers just click on listen live on our main website www.wolt-fm.com.

Feel free to stop by www.spinsc.com and leave your comments. New stream should be of a better listening quality and hopefully handle the load without dropouts....Thanks!

It sounds a lot like a part time commitment. Just curious, but why did you decide to basically run two formats on one station?

Hi Hammer5,

WOLT is a brokered station. Meaning, instead of selling :30's, :15's or :60 seconds spots etc. we sell blocks/hours of airtime. It's not two formats, we have, talk, sports, bluegrass, gospel, rock, beach music and now top 40. It's a business model that is admittedly far different from traditional radio - but one that works quite well. In this particular case, we have a potential mutally beneficial situation at an otherwise non-lucrative time.

Plus, the already negligible impact of doing classic hits parttime is reduced now that Chuck FM is on and heavily overlapping in signal and music.

Craig,

I love it... now if we can boost that signal to reach Easley a little better. Bout time things get better in this market!!

Speaking of WOLT, how common is the "pay for play" format around the country and throughout radio history?

I don't understand your question, or I fail to understand how it specifically pertains to WOLT.

Are you asking about the prevalence of brokered shows, where the show producers pay for time on the station?
If so, then it happens at many stations in many broadcast markets all throughout the country, even in my hometown of Chicago. For example, there is a program called "Dance Factory" that airs on Chicago's suburban WCPT-FM where the show producer pays for the airtime. The same situation happened with "Rebel Radio," a heavy-metal rock program that aired on various stations in Chicagoland for several decades. (Full disclosure: The CHR programming of SPIN-FM is a joint venture between Davidson Media Group and JamTraxx Media, and is absolutely NOT brokered.)

Or are you asking about payola, the illegal practice of record companies paying radio stations to play their music?
It should not happen at all. (Payola is absolutely PROHIBITED and NOT endorsed, practiced, or allowed at JamTraxx Media, Inc., the programming consultants behind "SPIN-FM." If any of our staff members were caught with payola, then I would fire them immediately without hesitation.)

I think what CB was asking was about programers renting time on radio stations to air their shows wheather it's a music format or just a show. I think it's a good idea we have been thinking about it in our area.

Gatekeeper is right. Like if anybody, who has the money, can be a DJ and do what they want in their brokered slot. I was just thinking about how that's an interesting concept away from the corporate stuff.

i agree. unfortunately in most cases it is done to pump up the host's already over inflated ego and is not good programming. at least corporate radio has managers that tell the hosts they suck
