What is strange is that WOLT comes in pretty darn well in Easley!!! Not too far from WRIX-FM 103.1!

As I explained in an earlier post, Easley is about where both stations signals will get choppy and interfere with each other.. so in that area, it really depends on the radio and etc.

54 dbu signals are still somewhat listenable and the 54 dbu signals of each WRIX-Fm and WOLT-FM both hit around Easley.

yeah, I also agree 103.3 never should have been "shoehorned" in there so close to 103.1 As a "stand alone" trying to be a Greenville station, it doesnt have the coverage.....but as a Spartanburg station it works...& blasts into Gaffney, Union...etc

I also miss the simulcast, as the 103's together covered the metro quite well, but it's not about ratings anymore. The "feeding of the egos" & getting the cash is the name of the game now....& can do that better selling time on the sticks seperate.

radioguy, WOLI has a pretty good coverage. It's on a much clearer frequency and of course has more power. As long as 103.3 covered Sptbg. with the simulcast, I don't guess it really mattered. Seems to me they could have picked a much clearer frequency, but I guess they wanted to stay in the 103 range for branding purposes. I agree with Brian, it shouldn't have been stuck there.

I wonder which frequencies are the clearest for a new station in Greenville/Spartanburg (not that there will likely be any). I would say 92.1, 94.9, 95.5, 97.3, or maybe 107.7...but then again, I am no engineer whatsoever. I do know where I am at least 93.3 and 93.7 are sort of hard to get on a non-digital radio since they are so strong and close. I doubt that would be allowed now.

92.1 in Greenville/Spartanburg would be too close to the Lavonia, GA FM on 92.1

Art Sutton has that permit, WTCO-FM licensed to Pendleton.

WOLI 103.9 is 6kw/328 feet and WOLT 103.3 is 2700W/495... on paper it looks like WOLI would have a vastly better signal, but heigh makes a big difference... so, in reality.. WOLI signal isn't THAT much better ;=)

Yeah, I forgot about 92.1. Are there any interference/legal problems with the other ones I mentioned? I doubt any of those frequencies could have a 100kw signal..

Guess you're right about the WOLI signal - but it just seems to always come in better in the parts of the upstate I'm in. And add that they have a much better dial position than 103.3, as they aren't sandwiched between 2 other close stations.

WOLT should take their money. one show host thinks they are so popular that they are promoting concerts now. Bad economy and christmas spell doom.
