WOLT-FM 103

Have anybody notice that WOLT-FM drop the oldies format and replace it with the Carolina Classic format from 8:00pm-6:00am time and look like they have replace the other guys that used to give the call letters now only one person give it. and give the Line ups.

One thing I liked before, they had some great oldies shows on Saturday Nights, and Sunday afternoon. All appear gone.

Is Sock hop Soda Shop show still on on Sunday afternoon and Sunday nights.? on WOLT i been away for last 6 weeks. so i been haven`t been able to listen to WOLT FM for last 6 weeks. as this is my first weekend back home.

Sad to see what 103.3 and 103.9 have become. They were decent stations as a simulcast at one point. Too bad they were split and cut and divided like they were.

How old is this post really? WOLT-FM had aired the Carolina Classic lineup around Feb. of 2009 for a couple of moths and then totally dropped it!!!

103.3 and 103.9 were awesome as "Star" and played nothing but the 80's, even though it didn't make it back then, I'm sure that is would make it just fine in this market, that is clearly looking and needing something more than the options Clear Channel (amongst other companies) shove down our ears.

I like FM radio but I don't want to be forced to turn off the radio or to move to CD's or Satellite radio when it doesn't take much to tweak a few things for us radio lovers!

Boost the power on 103.3, get a format to compete with others on and roll with it.

Yes, but before Star 103.3 and 103.9 were Oldies (ABC Solid Gold Feed From Texas). Oldies 103.

And true, I just realized that Oldies is missing in this market as well. It could work too, it doesn't take a genius to know all you have to do to reach that market is advertise on Sunday's when a majority of that demographic is out and about driving around, or way early in the mornings.

Oldies would work. Image it well and I'd listen periodically...(not because of my age, but just because I love music and know songs from that generation of time and music)!! :)

From what I've heard, Dial Global has a somewhat decent Oldies feed on AMC 8 that would work well with a good touch of localized material.

To oldiesfan2--No, The Sock Hope Soda Shoppe is gone too. All of those shows I would hear on Sat. & Sun are gone.

Is Country Earl still on there? It's far from my type of show, but I think he had a local following. What has replaced all of the local/specialty shows?

I wonder if the 103's are making enough money operating this way. Looks like Davidson has sold quite a few stations off and quit acquiring. Too bad a normal company couldn't have bought them back in 2005 and programmed them normally.

Re: Star....yeah, it was a good station. I liked Charlie @ 106.3 also. At least Entercom still plays 80s at lunch on Magic.

Made it a point to listen last night .... yup Earl was on. That guy is a hoot to listen to. You can't help but laugh at what goes on. I guess he has fun and people pay him for it. I clocked a 'spot' for a used car lot at just over 5 minutes. In the 6pm hour, I heard the end of a Clemson backetball game. Those guys sounded less than thrilled in the post game show.

BTW: Changes locally at Davison started early last year, with the 'elimination' of Robert Freese's position out of the Charlotte office. (Robert passed away due to cancer this past October). He was the one who liked the oldies as fill material.

Wonder if anyone could re-pair the 103's and make another go at it?

I wonder how Davidson is doing as a company? I've read speculation on the Charlotte board about them possibly selling WNOW/105.3 up there. And, like I said, they have stopped acquisitions and have sold some stations off.

I don't see how the 103's could be re-paired unless the time brokered programming was ended somehow. They have all of these blocks of time sold to different people. When they're operating as a simulcast, WOLT/WOLI put a pretty decent signal across the market. Combined, they could be a viable operation for someone local or a larger broadcaster (Cox?) willing to run it like a NORMAL station, IMO.

Davidson never owned 105.3, so they couldn't sell it. The original "Gaffney Family", or who is still alive in it still owns it. DMG agreed on the original price several years ago, then after the economy got bad, they changed their minds!

Oh, I see....I had thought Davidson followed through. I'm sure they are glad they didn't put even more money than the LMA fees in to it. It is rumored that whoever owns 105.3 is interested in selling, though, and I haven't seen anything about Davidson buying.

I forget Davidson owns 910. That would make a nice little local station, maybe an FM translator for it.
