WONA-FM MOVING TO TUPELO? WKZB MOVING OUT OF DOWNTOWN MERIDIAN...

I don't see anything yet for WOXD or WTBG but they would be good ones to watch. I wonder if there is some Texas magic being worked on Mississippi.

so I see the new 102.1 in Vaiden becomes 95.1 covering Winona.

If WONA does move to Sherman, will Winona have a local radio service any longer? I know what WONA-AM is still licensed to Winona, but every time I go through there I never hear anything on 1570. Does anyone know if it's actually on? I also see that AFR has a translator in Winona - never have had a chance to check it out and see if it's on the air. I'm sure that since WONA-AM is still licensed that technically speaking Winona still has a local radio service. If WONA-AM were not there any longer, would the translator be sufficient to say that Winona still had local service?

AFR's translator is licensed to Duck Hill

The FCC reports that WONA-AM is silent but present owner says that they are going to put the station on the air in near future. That was last year when they renewed the license.

Putting the AM back on solves the issue. Also I would look for them to purchase the 102.1 which becomes 95.1. On air it will appear like nothing changed. Business as usual.

The bigger question is, who in the world is wanting to move another FM into Tupelo? Clear Channel is trying to get out of the market, as those and all of the other properties URBan Radio has are listed with brokers. And they are listed publicly, so I'm not breaking any confidences. The Dowdy family is surely reaching not only the ownership limit.

Telesouth maybe? So they can own their own signal and not pay a lot of money out the door to Flinn every month?

The application for WKZB explains:

THIS APPLICATION IS ONE OF FOUR APPLICATIONS BEING FILED ON A CONTINGENT BASIS PURSUANT TO SECTION 73.3517(E) OF THE COMMISSION'S RULES--
1) THIS APPLICATION PROPOSES TO CHANGE THE REFERENCE POINT FOR STATION WKZB AT MARION, MS IN ORDER FOR CH. 236A TO BE SUBSTITUTED FOR CH. 271A AT VAIDEN, MS. A CHANNEL STUDY IS PROVIDED IN EXH. 27 FOR A NON SHORT SPACED SITE. A CONTINGENT APPLICATIONS AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE VAIDEN PERMITTEE AND THE LICENSEE OF STATION WKZB IS ATTACHED AT EXH.30 FOR THIS PURPOSE.

2) THE VAIDEN CHANNEL SUBSTITUTION IS NECESSITATED BY THE CONTINGENT APPLICATION FOR A NEW STATION AT CALHOUN CITY WHICH PROPOSES TO MODIFY THE TRANSMITTER SITE LOCATION ON CHANNEL 272A TO AN EXISTING TOWER (ASRN 1248641) WITH AN INCREASE IN ERP TO 6 KW.

3) IN ORDER FOR CHANNEL 272A AT CALHOUN CITY, MS TO BE NON SHORT SPACED UNDER SECTION 73.207 OF THE COMMISSION'S RULES, THE PERMITTEE OF CHANNEL 271A AT VAIDEN, MS PROPOSES THE SUBSTITUTION OF CHANNEL 236A. THE CALHOUN CITY AND VAIDEN PERMITTEES HAVE THE SAME OWNER. THEREFORE, NO AGREEMENT IS NECESSARY AND NO REIMBURSEMENT IS REQUIRED.

4) CHANNEL 236A IS AVAILABLE FOR USE AT VAIDEN, MS ONLY AFTER STATION WONA-FM, WINONA, MISSISSIPPI DOWNGRADES FROM CH. 236C3 TO CHANNEL 236A AND CHANGES ITS COMMUNITY OF LICENSE TO SHERMAN, MS AT ANOTHER TRANSMITTER SITE AS A FIRST LOCAL SERVICE. THE LICENSEE OF WONA-FM DESIRES TO MAKE THESE CHANGES AND HAS ENTERED INTO A CONTINGENT APPLICATIONS AGREEMENT WITH THE VAIDEN AND CALHOUN CITY PERMITTEE (ATTACHED TO THOSE APPLIATIONS) FOR THIS PURPOSE.

THE PARTIES REQUEST THAT THE COMMISSION COORDINATE THE PROCESSING OF THE FOUR CONTINGENT APPICATIONS AND TAKE ACTION SIMULTANEOUSLY.
