WOND - No Sales On The Weekends?

I spent most of the July 4th holiday in Atlantic City (and no, I did not listen to a single minute of that new station). Anyhow, scanning the AM dial, and was psyched to hear a Dennis Miller show rerun, given what day it was. At five minutes to six, during the final break in that show's hour, I heard the WOND legal ID, followed by... three minutes of dead air.

Later that evening was also suspicious, as during the local portions of commercial breaks for Bill Cunningham's show, I heard only promos for other WOND programs. At some points, I heard no local promos at all, being treated to a two-minute instrumental bed of Kid Rock's "All Summer Long," something that I think is not even supposed to go out over the air.

I can't speak for all year round, and maybe it's jut a coincidence and the fact that it was, in fact, a holiday. But I would hate to think this is the way it is every Sunday, let alone Saturday, on WOND.

Saturdays on WOND are a fantastic lineup of a car repair show Your Neighborhood Garage at 7am...ITS YOUR MONEY financial show at 8 AM---The great Ed Hitzel food show TABLE FOR ONE from 10am to 1 PM...The very hard hitting political talk show THE MATWORLD SHOW from 1- 3PM with Mat Toenniessen...Ron Staller's TRUTH IN LENDING at 3PM with mortgage talk and then Atlantic City Plugged IN with Mark Berman from 4-5 PM....

Thats 10 hours of LIVE local programming on a Saturday....

Hard to beat.

I wish we could get programming like this in Ocean County. During the weekend, the only talk station we can get is playing worn-out '70s/'80s hits. Atlantic should put this on 103.7 FM and dump the underperforming Shark. They do pretty well on the little AM signal - just imagine how well they would do on a strong FM signal.

Those are all brokered shows, the hosts pay for the time.
Many brokered shows suck big time, because the only way
those people can get on the air is to buy time.

Just like Jerry Blavat!

Just like Jerry Blavat!

At least Blavat is his own boss, and has made it work for himself for 30+ years. Something to be said for that.

I host a show on WOND Saturdays at 4pm ACPluggedIn, All Celebrity Interviews, Past guests include Melissa Etheridge, Joan Rivers, Dennis Miller, Dane Cook, Rita Cosby, Jack Bruce and many more Check It Out, We do not use a service suppling us with answers I conduct all the interviews and we have sponsors.
To address Jerry Blavat, My show followed his in the Philly area a few years back and he delivers a nice audience, You Have To Respect 50 years in Broadcasting.

4th of July weekend at the Jersey Shore. ALL stations should be packed with commercials...it's the busy time of the year. Sounds like some AE's are asllep at the wheel and heads should roll.
