WONDERFUL WAGL

O-K. Does anyone else know what to make of this station? What's their philosophy? Do they even have a philosophy? Southern Gospel and Preaching in the morning. "Music of Your Life" mid-morning. More preaching. Back to "Music of Your Life." But the real curious thing is that the "Music of your Life" part can be anything from....Patti Page to Little Richard. I only recently began hearing a couple of actual spots on the station. Their automation system resets itself at the top of the hour and whatever happens to be playing at :59:59 gets cut off no matter what. What a train wreck and yet I can't turn away...I'm.............drawn..................to..................it................................................................................hhhhhheeeeeelllllllllpppppppppppppp!

I have not listened to WAGL in a long time, but they are a former shell of it's self... Back in the day they were a fun station to listen to... I am sure the gospel and preaching was added since 102.3 in Pageland went Spanish. Lot of people could pick AGL up as far east as Cheraw, but I dunno if that is still the case or not... As for them being sloppy even b4 I left SC almost 8 years ago they were sloppy which for such a big signal is pretty bad... CC1

They cover the midlands( Cola. ,etc.) better than WBT daytime only of course. I keep a button on my radio for WAGL and the oldies. No ads!!

Yeah, Waggle was a fairly decent top 40 station back in the 70s. They ran 10 kw then and did have a good signal all the way to Cheraw. I think when they went to 50 kw that changed, as their signal is now directed only to the south. I live about 8 miles north of the transmitter site and barely get any signal at all, maybe what would expected of a 250 watt signal at that frequency. Waggle featured southern gospel and preachin long before Pageland's 102.3 went spanish. I do wonder how Waggle pays the bills--they have a nice looking tower site just outside of the city of Van Wyck and a modern looking studio building (also location of the original towers, now gone) across the street from the hospital in Lancaster. I guess life would be rough for any AM in Lancaster with a dozen or so big city FMs throwing city grade signals down from Charlotte. Also, Waggle was the first 10000 watt AM radio station in SC and was also only the second 50000 watt station, behind only Greenville's now defunct WHYZ on 1070 (not a good omen, I guess).

Thanks for the info. I'm still just real curious about the place and how they pay the bills. I reckon the paid religious stuff pays the bills. And maybe the paid religion shows won't buy time unless they're surronded by a religious format?? But they need to pick a format either 1) Adult Standards 2) Oldies 3) Religious. Doing all three is a train wreck. I'm actually trying to root for them and be a fan but they make it awfully difficult. Anyway..thanks....
