wondering what happened to

Does anybody remember the old WKQV Stereo 92 in Vineland?
on a back road, in an old white shack? It was a scream. It was owned
by a family named Ventressca, and maybe it's just me, but were they out there
or what? The mom and her Kid Ted, ran the place. I would
love to know where are they now, plus any alum. Weekly firings were the norm.
And jocks who just never bothered to show up for there shifts

I never met Vita Ventresca, but spoke to her on the phone a few times
when she called me and asked if I'd get them back on the air. She paid
the bill quickly. I see she's in the phone book in Laurel Springs. She
used to be in real estate in Cinnaminson, where Ted graduated from HS
in 1980. From what I remember, Ted went on to be a success in NY
under another name, which I don't remember. He's probably still in
radio.

Don't blame it all on Vita ... she got thrown into running the station
when her husband split. Back in those days, you had to have people
24/7 ... and they were less than reliable. Small stations wound up
with the grads from broadcasting schools, who were typically 19 years
old, living at home 60 miles away, with no car. They didn't last long.
I miss the days of live jocks on every station, but the computers
don't call in sick, no show/no call, they don't play their favorite songs,
fall asleep, lock themselves out of the building, steal stuff, run up
the phone bill, make a mess, quit with no notice, refuse to work
holidays, etc.

After Vita sold it, the station moved from the transmitter building to
downtown Vineland for awhile, then moved back ... they are there now.

I was there a few times ... it was small, but typical of a small station.

I got my first job there back in 1975, worked with Joe Dawson "Jersey Joe" Monforto, Bill Salati, Dave Creamer, Sal Roberts, Ted and a host of others. I had a third class license and did the meter readings during Ted's night show, then did a shift until 2 AM. Later I did the mornings there. Although I barely speak a word of Italian, I engineered the "Italian Show" and basically played a bunch of records for an hour. Stayed there until late '76 and went back to college. Ah, memories...
By some miracle, the place stayed on the air, but I think Vita sold it to the current owner for about a quarter million. The signal alone is worth more than that.
Ted Kelly I believe is the head honcho at XM's "U-POP" channel in Washington, D.C.
