WONE reception near Lake Erie

Anyone near Lake Erie getting interference from CIQM/London, ON on 97.5? Here in Lorain and Vermilion, OH the London station has pretty much taken over the frequency. I was hearing CHR tunes instead of rock.

Speaking of London, OH, I was able to pick up 96 Rock (95.9 FM) in the Mentor, Painesville, Kirtland, Chardon and Chesterland areas. They're an alternative-leaning active rock, with a MUCH better playlist than WMMS. It came in quite well, despite the presences of 95.9 in Youngstown and 95.9 in Canton. I think the station is near 180,000 watts.

On the east side, WONE generally comes in fine along Lake Erie, but DX from London kills that quickly with their 97.5. It wasn't a very frequent occurrence though.

Being from Euclid originally, 95.9 was on my presets for as long as I had a car. Mid-90s on. Never had any issue picking up 95.9 or Chatham's 94.3 "The Rock" (now at 95.1) in Euclid or anywhere in Lake County. In the late 90s, when 107.9 flipped from alternative and 100.7 settled into becoming a sleepy WNCX clone, 95.9 and 94.3 (and 88.9 from Streetsboro) were my go-to stations. They do have a fantastic playlist - haven't heard as much recently now that I live farther south, although I still occasionally catch them when I'm driving near the lake.

Oh - 95.9 is 300kw on a 1750-ft stick. I remember having a crummy Sony Walkman on me in Madison a long time ago, and 95.9 came in like a local from over 100 miles away. Check out this signal footprint:

I was driving through Lakewood yesterday and hit the preset button for WONE. Initially, I though I was listening to WONE, but no, it was EZ 97 from Canada. I didn't realize it until they gave the temperature in centigrade. :)

WONE does not get grade "A" coverage into a lot of Greater Cleveland due to the high-elevation Parma ridge which affects their transmission from the Channel 23 tower in Akron. If the band is quiet, WONE can be heard reasonably well in Greater Cleveland, but when the band opens up (as it does a lot this time of the year) WONE can be over-ridden by the Canadian station on 97.5, especially near the lake.

Sometimes the band opens up to the point where even WGAR, WZAK, WFHM and WKRK will be subject to considerable interference near the lake from the Detroit stations on the same frequencies.

I noticed the Canadian station changed formats on August 17. The station is now Virgin Radio 97.5 http://london.virginradio.ca/.
