I remember you being a big fan back in the day. Didn't you see them out at the Memorial Auditorium?

Sure is/am/was. I was also saw them when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant, and they still wanted me to take my shirt off! But it didn't happen. I actually talked my way into the Memorial for that event because when I showed up they were at max capacity, and weren't letting anyone else in. Dropped a few choice names and walked right in. That was the last time they did a live event here. Something to do with a few cigars and Monica Lewinski. ;)

I can't wait to check him out when he hits the air. I wonder how much music he'll play since it is a rock station. I knew he wouldn't be able to stay away, much like the rest of us.

According to the WOCM website (as of 5 p.m. PDT 6/26), Geronimo will be on from
1 to 3 p.m. ET (!!)...

1 to 3 p.m.??

Two hours? That's all?

A day or two ago, dcrtv.com made mention that Geronimo is back on-air in a market where no
CBS-O&O stations exist (due a clause in his non-compete contract), because WOCM appears
(at least to me) to be a low-impact FM station...but it is in the same town where Don lives...

P.S. - I remember the stories that Joe Wosik, a friend I've known for quite awhile, told
me and several others about that D&M Memorial Auditorium show, of which he was in a
LONG line that snaked around for blocks, yet he was lucky to get into the show. LOL! The
"Monica Lewinsky Cigar Contest" was the tip of the iceberg. Other highlights included oddball
audio/video of celebrities at their worst. The smell of something "illegal" in the section where
Joe sat. And Joe said there were SO many people crammed in that auditorium space that it's
amazing the Fire Department didn't shut the place down...but Joe, and the others,
had a total blast there!! ;D

Ahh yes, the Memorial show. I still have flashbacks...The cigar-hiding contest...the extended french-kissing of Dennis Murphy...something involving a semi-nude man that I seem to have repressed...and the F-bombs. Sweet Lord, the F-bombs. I wasn't really shocked to hear the gang use that kind of language, I just couldn't enjoy it...I kept expecting a hot line to ring!

FYI, I know this belongs on the D.C./Baltimore board, but I'm curious
how Mike O'Meara, sans Geronimo, is doing in Sacto after catching
this tidbit from < http://www.dcrtv.com > over the weekend:

"...DCRTV hears that WJFK-FM (15th place in DC 12+) afternooner
Mike O'Meara, post-Don Geronimo, is up to second place among
adults age 25-to-54 and in third place with men age 18+ for the
month of May ... Not bad."

wait.....let's go back even further. Their first live show in Sac. At that dump on Sunrise...used to be a sports bar.......FOR GOD'S SAKE I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME!!! I was just starting out, doing weekends at KNCI and promotions.

That's when Jack Youngblood was doing afternoons with Grant on 1140, and Don refered to Jack as a "poor man's Fred Dryer."

Then right in the middle of Don & Mike's show, here we come rolling through the door with Jack Youngblood decked out in a boxing robe and boxing gloves. Get's right up on the stage and Don has to stand on a chair just to go eye to eye with Jack. Pretty funny....

It was at Bobby McGee's? I remember Don and Mike playing "Strip Trivia" at the old America Live! inside Downtown Plaza...

BOBBY MCGEE'S THAT'S RIGHT. They made a total of 3 trips to Sac. Bobby McGee's, America Live, (i used to DJ there), and Memorial.

why the eff doesn't he just go back to don and mike? LORD knows The Mike show is suffering without him.

Actually, judging from the Washington ratings that dcrtv.com was told of,
Mike O'Meara's gang is doing quite well...and when I tune in, they sound
like they're having a fun time, especially with more of "Buzz" being involved...

OR...do you know something about the Sacto ratings of late for KHTK, Noon-4?

Cordially curious...

Don't forget about the Sleep Train Amphitheater show...technically not in Sac, but I figure it counts.

i have no idea what the ratings are,

it just seems like every time i surf over to the khtk website to listen, i see some complaint on that little chatterbox thing on the front page about them or the monarchs.

when i've listened, it's just seemed awkward and like they just haven't found their groove yet. Bethann just gets on my nerves.

I was able to hear some of the first show Monday over the station's internet feed, but then the feed stopped for a while, came back on, then went off for good. I haven't been able to get it since. I take it that CBS has made the station pull the plug. Any chance that the feed can be found elsewhere? I'm no tech wizard, but would really like to hear the show. Any ideas?

Doubtful...UNLESS Geronimo said something libelous or otherwise about CBS...

Far as can be seen, he should be okay to broadcast in Ocean City, since 1) that signal can not
reach anywhere near Washington, D.C., and 2) there are zero O&O CBS stations in Ocean City...

My guess is that the KOCM audio bandwidth got overloaded from curious out-of-area listeners
and caused a shutdown...

P.S. - Ocean City, MD to Sacramento, CA: 3,073 miles, as the U.S. 50 roadsign says there in O.C.!:

I'm very glad to hear that the Mike O'Meara show is doing well in the ratings. Don has always come across as a bit of arrogant, egocentric ******. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole "retirement" shtick was him trying to show how important he was to the show, and assuming that they would come begging him to return when the ratings tanked. The new Mike & Co. show is MUCH more listenable and a lot funnier.

Sadly, it was short lived as he was fired a couple of days ago. He got canned for talking too much, and other stuff.

"Other stuff?" Oh, come now Clinger...you're keeping secrets again, aren't you? :)

Mike O'Meara will be fine, eventually...he's slowly -- and I do mean SLOWLY -- finding out what works and what doesn't, and how much of everyone needs to be in the mix so it works properly.

As for Don, he's talented, but not necessarily at his best on his own. I'd guess he'll be back somewhere soon, perhaps on the bird, and with some people around him.

JVP, you are correct on both counts - Mike is doing okay, while Don struggles...

BTW, I kyped this from Don Geronimo's Wikipedia entry earlier this week
(yes, we KNOW how "accurate" Wikipedia can be), but this has been excised
within the last 3 days! This is what SC5 was likely refering to:

From a Don Geronimo Wikipedia entry:
After only 2 months in retirement, Geronimo announced that he would return to the air on WOCM, a small, independently owned radio station in Ocean City, Maryland. Don Geronimo's Rockin' Soul Show will air weekdays from 1 pm - 3pm and feature popular music from the 70's and 80's. Geronimo described the show as "Music that doesn't suck". After 1 month on the air at WOCM Geronimo was fired from his show. He is quoted as saying They fired me for talking too much and adlibbing during live reads. Oh, and I wanted more than $10 an hour. All true, gotta love radio... Next move maybe sooner before later... but I did have fun for a month".....[2]

Note the lack of quotation marks...as this was probably written on the fly...

Welcome to the "real" world Don!

Goes to show that EVERYONE IS REPLACEABLE, THE MOMENT YOU THINK YOU ARE NOT, OR THINK YOU ARE DONE PAYING YOUR DUES, YOU ARE DONE, PERIOD!

I don't wish anyone ill will, but when some of these larger than life folks decide they want out, then decided that things really weren't that bad, and want back in (and it doesn't pan out) I have no sympathy for them...not that Don G. was looking for any.

But now he understands the real economics of radio in a regular town with regular folk, who have regular lives.

Call it a nice bit of humility slapping him in the face.
