Hey guys...

I just wanted to pass along information about www.TheWoodlandsRadio.com. I had the info passed on to me. The guy who runs it is evidently fairly serious about it and is attempting to sell promos and the like. He also has a lot of community info on it... which is a good thing I suppose. I don't know much about internet radio or the guy who runs it, but maybe some of you do and can offer some opinions. The music selection is okay if you like that sort of thing.

The Woodlands might be the right sort of place for its own LPFM. No sign of that happening, however, aside from satellators.

If the proposed move of KRCM 1380 from Beaumont to Shenandoah ever happens, the Woodlands will have a station right next door. Wonder if the COL could be changed?

In the late 80's, the old KRTS would ID a translator station in The Woodlands, K221CE. Driving by on I-45 I never heard any sign of it, so perhaps it never actually existed, or was extremely low power. This was when KRTS was still a Class A.

Well, there is an old radio station site in Shenandoah on I-45... perhaps that was it??? I would imagine the old radio station site in Shenandoah is where the transfer is supposed to be going. There is a little mini-tower there still.

Shenandoah could service The Woodlands I am sure. Part of The Woodlands is actually in Shenandoah's city limits. As far as changing the COL to The Woodlands, would The Woodlands have to be a true "city" for it to be a COL?

That site you speak of was used by 880 and 103.3 when they were a simulcast..later it was the STL site for the trip to the new 1200ft tower for 106.9 when it was U 106.9 (and other formats)....the studios for 106.9 were on the SW side at that time when US Radio owned it.
Currently Liberman owns the building and the tower...the STL was used for feeding 880AM from the Kirkwood location (was fed via phone line to that site where a studio of sorts was still present for "local main studio" requirements...but with no employees there, especially management folks, it is highly illegal...someday they may get fined)..Since LBI moved their studios to Bering and still have 880 LMAed to Radio Saigon, I am not sure if they are still feeding the STL that way OR if they made it a straight shot to the xmtr site in Conroe...even though that would be illegal too since under a LMA, the licensee MUST have a way to take over the station at any time as per Part 73.

BUT there was NO radio xmtr at the Shenandoah bldg ever..

The Woodlands has a PO, etc but no city government...thats a major requirement..but COL stands for Community of License, not City....

But before that it was the main studio for the original KJOJ 106.9 in the 1980's, when owned by Jimmy Swaggart.

The Woodlands Operating Company essentially acts as a city government, and probably exerts more control over commercial and residential property than a city government would. However, once the buildout of The Woodlands is complete around 2015, most of the area will probably be annexed by the city of Houston, a la Kingwood.

The FCC has granted Clear Lake City as the COL for low powered TV stations, and Clear Lake, although it is a community, is less independently governed than The Woodlands (Houston annexed Clear Lake City and Clear Lake City does not have its own post office mailing address but uses Houston as the address, unlike The Woodlands, which has its independent mailing address).


So I don't see any reason why The Woodlands couldn't be the COL for a radio station. Although does it really matter to most people what the COL is, but rather the signal coverage and programming? I don't think that 107.5 likely is the top rated station in Lake Jackson just because its COL is Lake Jackson, etc.
