The new ABC anchor may not return this year but hopefully his longterm prognosis is good for an '07 comeback as he's fortunate to have survived.

Hopefully, he'll be back in the near future. And, I'm sure he'll receive a big-money offer to write a book about his experiences, which might become a best-seller.

I feel so bad for the ABC News division. They lost Peter Jennings last July, and now Bob Woodruff may have a long road of recovery ahead. Just unfortunate for the network. Some guys talking on a radio show commented about how that male anchor chair on ABC News seems to be "haunted." Maybe Elizabeth Vargas should be the only one handling the newscasts.

Ohh....PUH-LEAZE!!! What do the guys on radio know?

Anyhow, does anyone (besides Joseph) here think that ABC will wait forever to hire someone to take Bob's place? If I was a bettin' man (which thankfully I'm NOT ), MY $$$ would be ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Moreover, I would think that ABC would use this opportunity to attempt to lure LESTER HOLT from the failing MSNBC (since Aaron Brown is too much of a softie IMO) to co-anchor ABC WNT with Elizabeth.

I openly lobbied for Lester Holt to be Brokaw's replacement. He is excellent at the anchor desk and in the field. I've heard that he's being considered for the CBS post now that they have all but given up on Couric, who I've also heard will annouce a long-term deal to keep her at NBC after the Olympics.

If he has any trouble with his speech (a la Jim Brady), he won't EVER be back as an ABC anchor.
Sorry folks, but that's the pure truth, you aren't being told. Don't misread me, it's a terrible thing, I hope he makes a full recovery. Bet lets be realistic about this, ABC News has a BIG problem on its hands!

Same here.
I'd still like to see Anderson Cooper. Or maybe they go after Katie also. Or the easy solution would be just to let Vargas have the whole newscast.

Even worse than the voice is what if his face has been scarred in any way? Again, not being shallow because I pray for these men to recover, but that's the visual nature of tv--will America accept such an anchor?


Here's at least some decent news, culled from the news wires:
ABC News President David Westin sent the following update on Bob Woodruff and Doug Vogt to his ABC News colleagues today:

“Both Bob and Doug continue to make progress on their different roads to recovery.

“Yesterday Doug moved into an outpatient facility at Bethesda Medical Center where he will stay in the coming weeks. He is still under the treatment of the doctors there, but this is a positive step on his road to recovery.

“Bob is also making progress. The doctors are keeping him sedated for now to help with the healing of his various injuries. They do adjust the levels of his sedation from time to time, and they have been pleased with how he responds even with somewhat lowered sedation. This remains a long process, but I will continue to let you know when there are important developments.”
