Woodstock Anniversary

Okay, so strictly speaking it's not "radio", but it's related...

...it's the 36th anniversary of Woodstock, 3 Days of Peace, Love, and Music this coming Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Anyone making a pilgrimage to the site? Bethel, NY, corner of Hurd Road and West Shore Drive. That's where the monument is. Looks down the hill to where the stage was located at the lower left.

It's only about 30 miles from Honesdale. Google yourself a map.

Don't know what if any construction has begun up at the top of the hill, some rich guy bought it years back and has been battling to put a concert venue of some sort there. Purists (the old hippies now bank executives) were not thrilled last I heard.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. I'm taking a ride.

If you go, be sure to take a ride down the hill from the monument toward where the stage was located. Follow that road a few miles and you'll come to Vassmer's General Store on the right. It was in the movie. It's also the location of the Bethel Woodstock Museum. Here's a link if you're at all interested.

I was too young to go. No transportation and no hippies
in the neighborhood to hitch a ride with. But that glorious
3 record set that came out, with the fold out full color
spread of the event is a vinyl classic. Give me an F.......give me
a.....................

I visited the site 2 years ago, just before they started construction; It struck me as being a very quiet and beautiful place. I was 16 at the time of the concert; wasn't really my style, but looking at it now it sure was cool. If you go; at the corner of hurd Rd and Westshore drive, there's one of the concrete piers used for one of the poles as a memento; parked there will be a guy in a Ford pickup. This guy came in 69 and never left. He sits there all day; his license number is "YASGUR 69" !!! Go check it out then check out some pics of what it looked like : landyvision.com has some excellent pics.

enjoy!!!
