Woody Nelson Scam?

I was forwarded this link earlier today.
Looks like that "Woody Nelson" character from SW Georgia (WSBX?) was nailed in Huntsville for a benefit concert that apparently was a big scam. Furthermore, it appears that he was caught doing the same sort of scam out in California a few years ago when he using "Jack Hammer" as his ID (real name appears to be Steven Blood).
Looks like he's still in SW Georgia, but for some reason has an Internet site that claims to be "broadcasting" from some bar down in Key West. For what it's worth it sounds like a completely programmed mess. And with no commercials or subscription I imagine it's more like an afterschool hobby since there's no revenue stream. I'm wondering if he makes his living pulling these sorts of scams on a regular basis? Anyone else out there ever deal with this great humanitarian?
Here's the link with the story from WAFF-TV:
http://www.waff.com/story/14993159/...-tornado-benefit-concert?clienttype=printable

I have been wondering what the connection was to Doreen Blood. Seems Woody is her son. I'm guessing she bought the station for him to give him something to do in order to avoid something like this.

... and the WSBX story keeps getting better. Who's making notes? There's definitely enough here to write a book... or a Lifetime Television Movie of the Week.

My guess on Doreen Blood has always been that she was listed as owner either to promote the station to advertisers as minority owned (women are still considered a minority even though they really are the ones who run all our lives ::) ) If that's not it other possibilities are that it was in her name to hide it from the man so it couldn't be confiscated from Woody if he screwed up (perhaps he had already screwed up before they bought WSBX?). or maybe she's just a nice momma that bought her son a radio station to play with but didn't trust him enough to put his name on the deed to the collateral (license). That would suck, to have a momma that doesn't trust you.

Again, as with all posts related to WSBX. I know nothing... I'm not involved. I've never heard the OTA signal of this station. This is pure speculation.

So far as I understand, the BBB is looking into complaints lodged with them, and law enforcement is not involved.

Does anyone know if this Georgia Triangle Broadcasting is an actual company? Nothing supporting this business, as a company legally registered in Georgia, seems to exist. Unless someone else's online sleuthing skills can find any supporting documentation we have to figure this "company" is another falsehood, probably acting as some sort of cover for any scams Blood is pulling.
Apparently, he's been posting (that's about all he does as his Internet site is nothing but pre-programmed garbage) about how he's been ripped off or extorted or blackmailed. Boy, can this guy whine. Sounds like the proverbial Momma's boy who can't get his way and then stamps his feet till he turns red in the face!
His last posts indicated that he would be posting a video response (once again, HIS posting without any supporting documentation or providing any answers that could clear some things up, I'd imagine) today. Wait for it.....naturally, he's now saying that he can't post the video due to security concerns from Facebook. He doesn't seem to have any problems posting videos on his Cowboy Bills page, so we have to presume that this "video response" is another lie.
He also said that he would be posting a hotline for people to call for updated info. Another lie, I guess, as this is still not happening.
Judging by his aol address and the fact that his site is hosted by "Go Daddy", we're guessing that he doesn't have the money for a video camera. And certainly no money to lease an "800" number for this imaginary hotline.
I've also read that he may be in some violation with regard to WSBX - does anyone understand that issue?
There's a lot of people this guy has wronged - hopefully he's getting his comeuppance soon.

Just checked:

http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/sta_list.pl?Facility_id=37449

and found that the formal status of the station, as of 12/30/2010, is "LICENSED AND SILENT." Checking the station's correspondence file, the last filing with the FCC was on October 1, 2009, informing the FCC that the station was resuming operations. The license is issued to Doreen Blood and not to Georgia Triangle, if I read the FCC webber correctly - which I assume means that she is personally responsible to answer to the FCC for any problems which arise. Surely there is a date certain where the license is subject to be vacated if the station is not on the air.

The GA Secretary of State has a listing for the company:

http://corp.sos.state.ga.us/corp/soskb/Corp.asp?1480384

which is shown to be out of compliance; it has not filed it's annual registration since May 10, 2009 - more than two years ago. I can find no filing for dissolution of the corporation, nor does it appear to be subject to administrative dissolution at this time. I also noted that Mrs. Blood is not listed as the registered agent of the corporation, nor does her name render any results when I search for her as an officer of the corporation. Bear in mind, though, that this website is run by a government agency in Georgia, which has had its share of budget woes, so it may or may not be up to date.

I think that your inference that the licensee is out of business is accurate but technically incorrect.

Let me get this straight.
In addition to the big trouble this guy's gotten himself into with this Storm Aid scam, he's (or at least Doreen Blood, his mother) in violation with the FCC-?
Plus, in all probability, his "company", Georgia Triangle Broadcasting, doesn't have a current business license for the state of Georgia. Another violation, right?
And based on all of these actions, it's probably a safe bet that he hasn't paid any taxes (State or Fed), either.
How does this guy get away with this? Does he just stiff everyone and then skip out?
Hopefully, anyone who's ever had bad dealings with him will contact the authorities in Alabama (and Georgia, too) and maybe he will finally have to answer for his pathetic lifestyle.
They should toss this Doreen in the slammer for good riddance due to her letting this clown out of the house!

All I know about their status with the FCC is from the fcc.gov website, which you can visit and contemplate at your leisure.

As far as their business practices, until someone makes a formal complaint to some authority of competent jurisdiction, nothing will be done about any of that. I rather think that what usually happens in cases, such as this appears to be based on the media reports, is that the people who get burned realize that there is no way they will ever get their money back, so they don't even bother with police reports, etc. They think it is simply best to cut their losses and move on.

Taxes and such are another thing. I would think that if someone is using a computer and the internet to organize and perpetrate any sort of fraud, this is something the Federal authorities would be interested in. Until a formal complaint is filed by some affected individual, however, nothing is going to happen. As I say, this rarely happens until the scam(s) reach some critical mass; that is, until enough people lose enough money and make enough noise so that law enforcement decides to investigate. The BBB and the press can print or air all the stories they wish, but in the end, that is not really going to help solve the problem.

Looks like he's in the wind.
For a guy that seems to post non-stop on a variety of sites, Facebook, Twitter, etc he's been incommunicado since Saturday, 7/9. His internet site is now just wall to wall Shoutcast programmed country songs; no liners, promos or PSA's. This fits into the description of when he got caught out in California - he split in the middle of the night apparently.
Not too sure if that strategy is going to work this time as he's pissed off a Facebook community (not a lot of humor in that crowd) as well as the folks in Alabama who, between these tornadoes and their typical conservative/God-fearing ways, will most certainly push the authorities to nail him. He's not going to get away this time. Besides, from what we've all been reading he IS in serious trouble this time versus the time in California.
Man, your Mom buys you a little radio station and all you had to do was nurture it instead of turning it into nothing but a worthless hulk. Oh, and maybe stay out of trouble, too.
If he's never done jail time or been convicted of anything in the past, I'd say his luck has run out. Maybe his Mom can pull the hacksaw in the cake routine.....

Can you post a link to the Facebook page for me, please? I like a good, bloodthirsty mob as much as anyone. ;D

All joking aside, do you know whether any national media have picked up this story?

He's now posting that his studios(?!) got fried during an electrical storm and his Internet is slowly coming back online. Not too sure what that means, but he must think it makes sense (in his delusional state). I believe a fellow poster lives/works in Thomasville - was there a sever storm this past weekend? Also, his Shoutcast account appears to have been shut down, so his Cowboy Bills site is silent. Eventually, the Cowboy Bills bar in Key West is going to have to take legal action, too.
Here's a link to the Facebook page where all his misdeeds are being exposed. Looks like pro golfer John Daly is now all over his scamming ways, too.
http://www.facebook.com/StormAid

We did have some storms here in Thomasville over the weekend, but nothing really severe. I wasn't aware that Mr. Blood was still in Thomasville. I know that WSBX has not been on the air since he took control of it...but haven't seen him around town (and it's a small town) in 2 or 3 years. Amusing stuff.

No, he's still in Thomasville in the place Doreen Blood purchased for him back in 2008 - an address out on Daisy Lane? He had posted this address as the Cowboy Bills Radio Center when his scam in Huntsville was uncovered. The 229-233-6153 phone number is still active and listed under her name; he was still answering it until last weekend or so when it's believed he hit the road.
I'd guess his not being seen in town that much could be due to the fact that unless Doreen gives him an allowance, he doesn't appear to have any sort of revenue stream. And since his scams are typically of the "2-bit" variety he probably doesn't see all that much from them. Especially, when they're so outrageous that you get nailed!
Anyway, looking thru the archives on this clown, claims about t-storms frying equipment are his favorite. In this instance he's blaming a fried server. Hey, if this guy's got a server on premises, then I'm Howard Stern! What's he need GoDaddy for?
And his non-stop vile postings appear to have resulted in another Facebook poster deciding to sue him, Doreen, and Georgia Triangle Broadcasting for slander. While you can post pretty much what you want on forums (such as this), he doesn't seem to realize that calling someone out with false accusations on a Facebook page can result in legal actions in addition to being banned.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next chapter on this phony - hopefully, it will include handcuffs, lawyers and serious fines.

If you go back and read the history of all things Woody Nelson on this board, you will see that I was always pulling for him to be successful with WSBX - that is, until the time I disagreed with him and he called me a racist. He never narc-ed me out to the high sheriffs here on Radio-Info, and so far, he hasn't sued me for anything. Still, I try to limit my comments vis a vis his activities to the technical and business aspects of radio and to those things which have been documented in the public record; e. g., the status of GA Triangle with the Secretary of State's office. I do not comment on his specific activities because I have not personally seen him do whatever it is he does, but I will say one thing: He seems to have a left a bad impression with many people. He reminds me of a character in a children's book, Chauncey & the Grand Rascal, I had when I was a kid. Woody is interesting, often amusing; but unlike the Grand Rascal, he is anything but endearing. Perhaps he has indeed gone too far this time. If those media reports are accurate, it is only a matter of time before he answers for his actions, either before a criminal court or in a civil suit. This is not a local story where I am, so please keep me posted. E-mail me if you like.

However, take a little friendly advice: Do not let Woody Nelson ruin your day so. Some of the people on the Facebook page are giving this fellow a little too much of their lives, if you ask me. Sure, find him and require him to account for his actions. Just know when it is time to walk away.

Peace Profound.

The last thing this clown ever does is follow thru on his legal threats. How could he since he has absolutely no leg to stand on. Besides, since he barely has two nickels to his name, how would he be able to come up with a retainer fee for a lawyer?
For the last week or so, in between threats, he's been scrubbing any site he (mostly Facebook pages) owns to lessen the legal fallout. Even though anything that's been on the web can always be retrieved. What an idiot.
This Huntsville scam isn't the first time, either. He tried nearly the exact same thing out in California several years ago. The local paper out there was contacted by the Huntsville press regarding the Storm Aid scam and they obviously still want to see Steven Blood dealt with by the proper authorities as they published an editorial summarizing his scams in both California and Huntsville.
Read all about it, here:
http://www.bigbeargrizzly.net/opinion/editorials/article_358b8802-a776-11e0-8145-001cc4c03286.html
Finally, do not be surprised if the local Thomasville media starts reporting these scams with the slant of "local man accused of ripping off charity events".
Thanks for your input and advice. Hopefully, we'll eventually see posts regarding his being caught, charged and punished.
