Driving home from Disneyland tonight, and I heard...dun dun duuuuuuuuuun! Woody on KROQ. Mornings in SF to nights in LA? Didn't sound voicetracked, either. Will do some more digging.

hes been doing weekend shifts there for about 6 months now....just a weekend thing for fun.....
and he does fly down there to do it live.

That makes no sense. Why would a morning jock in a Top 5 market, bother to fly down every week or so to intro some songs?

I'd say Woody will be part of the new east coast K-ROCK. Weatherly was back east for the launch a few months back and he does like to groom "his" talent before the move is made. So those weekend shifts "for fun" are really probably to get him set for the New Yawkers.

Good luck Woody, you sounded great in the central time zone too.

cuz kroq askewd him to. and Kroq usually pays for the flights.... they did the same thing with web fingers back in the day.
no, a morning jock in SF would not leave to do weekends in LA... but when you are cool with the boss and he asks you if you'd do a weekend shift for him at a station like KROQ., you dont turn them down.
as far as K rock in New york, woody worked there before he came to live 105, and does not plan to go back.
ask him yourself if you think im talkin out my ass... they need people right now, he was in town so he did a shift. you people think too much into this. these stations are all CBS, we sometimes work at other stations. it happens...

Adieu, adieu. How is Woody going to fair in LA? They don't always have left turn signals, which means a motorcycle might "cut" him off. Or others. His personality fits right into LA though. Do you think, if he moved he would tow his crew with him? Or no, because he would have a jock shift, not a morning show? Also, doesn't The Woody Show's contract expire in Jan. 2008? That's two years.

According to which calendar is January 2008 "two years"? ;D

As bad as I think Kevin and Bean are ("professional radio voices" do nothing for me), I don't think they're going anywhere. So if Woody ends up down here, I doubt it would be with the team. Unless some other posters' speculation turns out to be right and he's just putting in time before moving to an affiliated station on the East Coast.

I don't buy that he's flying down here on his off days "for fun." That may be the line he's floating around the office, but how many morning hosts would use their days off to fly into another market "just for fun"? He's getting paid, and he's probably lined something up for when his contract expires in "two years".

LOL. I guess I needed to specify, that the Woody show/WTR/Whatever signed a two year contract, going from Jan. 2006 and expiring Jan. 2008.

Also, I agree with VelvetMcIntyre that I don't buy it either, Woody flying down to Socal every weekend. Until I see a boarding pass (or a few) i won't believe it. These days it's just too easy and time saving to voice track. Flying would take at least 2-3 hours before and after his shift. I don't know where kroq is located in relation to LAX or Ontario. Although, he could afford to do so. Supposedly Woody's show was given a 2 million dollar budget. Even Alice's Sarah and No Name bring in close to one million each. Anyone else know anything about Woody's payroll or the show's budget?

For what it's worth, his shows have sounded live. He may actually be coming down here, but I don't think it's just for fun. He's got a plan.

AH-ha! Time invested, he'll want something. *agrees*

KROQ is on Venice near La Cienega. With weekend traffic being lighter on La Cienega, it would be less than 1/2 hour each way. He would want to stay off the freeway, the 405/10 interchange is one of the five busiest in the country and could be jammed at anytime.

I knew that's what you meant. But sometimes I just can't help myself...

He probably flies into Burbank, if I had to guess...

KROQ moved out of Burbank years ago. They are now about 8 miles from LAX. Probably about 20 minutes drive on the weekend.

as i have already told you, he is most certainly flying down there. he does all those shows live. sure hes got a plan, use that for leverage when negotiating a contract, and havbing a back up plan in case a renewal doesnt happen.
no one leaves a morning show slot in a top 5 market for a weekend gig. even if it is KROQ

yes its true..

I mentioned the Burbank airport not because of KROQ's proximity to it, but because of my guess that it's a lot less crowded than LAX, one of the busiest airports in the world. But not being an LA resident, whadoiknow?
