WOONSOCKET FIRE COVERAGE

WPRI has been on the air since about 8:00.It is now 10:45 and they are on WNAC right now with the WPRI 11 o'clock news getting to start. From what I gather WPRI simulcasted with WNAC until 10 when WPRI broke away to CBS programming.

WJAR- nothing they had the nerve to rerun the 7:00 o'clock news on 10.2.not even going live on RTV. Considering they had this HUGE DEBUT a couple of weeks ago with HD and a new set. I'm surprise they are not live on RTV.

WLNE-Nothing at all. Not even on the RI News channel.

Not sure about Boston...

Everybody in Boston is live on the scene, but nobody interrupted programming. However, WBZ/WFXT's chopper (I think they share a chopper now) was over the scene, and WPRI/WNAC was using footage from their chopper, considering that nobody in the Providence DMA currently operates a chopper...

I brought this up to Save Boston Channels. Bristol County viewers were able to tune to WBZ if they wanted to continue viewing CBS programming instead of watching special coverage. However, because WFXT is blacked out during FOX programming in Bristol County, there was no alternative method for Bristol County viewers to watch their FOX programming for the evening.

I do have a question - do you think this was a fire worthy enough of breaking into programming to cover?

Well people were evacuated, and most 9-alarm fires usually result in live coverage.

And I don't think its an issue for Bristol county if WPRI breaks into their CBS programming. Breaking news can happen in any market at anytime - People there would be equally pissed if they had WBZ and they were covering a fire in Fitchburg or something instead airing primetime.

Oh yeah, to the OP - I did see a ticker on WJAR during NBC programming, but that was the fullest extent of their coverage.

About the Bristol County comment: This was more directed towards WNAC/WFXT. Right now, WFXT is blacked out during FOX network programming in Bristol County, so Bristol County viewers wouldn't have been able to switch to WFXT to continue watching their FOX programming. This problem could be alleviated if A) WFXT petitions for significantly viewed status and the FCC grants it to them, or B) Bristol County is switched into the Boston DMA. But neither appear likely at the moment.
