The latest rumor is that "The Dave Ramsey Show" will replace Smerconish. Horrible! The good news is it can't last long. How many times can you listen to someone tell you to not overuse your credit cards. Zzzzz.
When WABC carried Ramsey a few years back I actually heard this guy tell listeners that the way to financial security is to put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ!" The show belongs on 570, not 710. :

They've gone from a B level host to a lower C level host in swapping Smerconish for Ramsey. I guess whatever is cheapest is what they will put on. Ramsey is probably barter or they're paying a bit to clear in NYC, so they can say "heard in NYC" to all the advertisers.

WOR and WABC don't seem to care about ratings, so long as it's cheap and advertisers buy the time. It's a disgrace that small markets have local talk and New York doesn't!

Cost of doing local talk in LA and Chicago isn't cheap either!
Stop complaining... here in Miami our "News / Talk" station, WIOD-AM, routinely runs stopsets-run-amock during automation segments (basically anything running 6pm - 6am) which obliterate the next segment of the syndicated show. At least you guys up in NYC have board ops still minding the store.
2 of WABC's syndicated shows originate at WABC (Hannity was a local show on WABC before syndication and had respectable ratings). Limbaugh still uses WABC as a production house even with Limbaugh himself and some of his crew being in West Palm. Could WABC wipe the slate clean and go all local? First, the shows they are carrying would go somewhere else and compete against them. Second, what personalities do you put in, do they catch on at all and how long does it take them to catch on; how many do they go through before they find hosts that catch on, and when they do, will they want their own syndication deals?

There's no reason they couldn't keep Limbaugh and Hannity and build local around the other time slots.
And seriously, how much longer can Imus keep up the show? Especially since McCord is gone, it's been even flatter lately. Or is Imus like that ugly old couch in the living room that you don't want to get rid of because it's still kind of comfortable and would be too much of a hassle to throw it out. And somehow, you've gotten used to the bad pattern because it's been there so long.

Is Ramsey a pay for play host on WOR?
Ramsey doesn't pay for play anywhere. He has "the simplest contract in radio". Run the show, if you want to drop it it's a 30 day out.
A lot of hosts who aren't pay for play DO pay to be on the big 50kW blowtorches in NYC. They're barter in almost every other market.
I'm sure a special deal was cut for WOR. Because there's no other way such a midwest oriented show would be on WOR. Nobody there could think it was good radio, could they??
