WORCESTER RATINGS SPRING 2011

http://www.radio-info.com/markets/worcester

WSRS & WXLO on top. Boston's WKLB 3rd highest rated station in Worcester. Would anyone in Worcester flip to Country?
Also Kiss & Jam'n making strong showings as well (beating out other Worcester stations). WAAF doing well - but they always have really been more of a Worcester station.

Your comments?

Really? Maybe you should check out the LEFT end of the FM dial once in a while

i dont think Worcester will ever change all thier stations are the same really!!

I read that there was an intergenerational sake of WORC-AM from Gois Sr to the little Goises. Hmmm....AM 1310's ratings? Non-existent...what a deal!

They also have WGFP from Webster as "Cool Country 940."

Pretty much unlistenable in the city proper. In fact they used to come in a lot better before some work was done at their tower (according to the website).

Speaking of the Worcester market, I wonder if there will be any shake-up at the Citadel cluster once Cumulus takes ownership.

100 FM The Pike actually WAS a country station back in the 90s, known as Q100.

And I THINK they had one of the syndicated mornings shows (John Boy and Billy?) at that time.

There was a time, in the 60s, when WORC-AM was number one with the Baby Boomers. FM stations only played classical music. Most cars didn't even have FM radios.

I don't recall a syndicated show in the morning. IIRC, during weekdays they were live and local in morning drive with Joe G. and Derek Moison (Now at Cool Country 940 WGFP-AM) and syndicated the rest of the day.

Barry Wilson had a long running local Country Hall of Fame show on Saturday mornings too.

According to Wikipedia (yes, I know, it's Wikipedia), I was sort of right. The Bob and Tom syndicated show aired on WWFX from 1999-2003 after the station changed from country to classic hits:

"The station signed on as WESO-FM, sister station to WESO. In 1979, the station's call letters changed to WQVR, and before long it had become country station "Q100". In February 1999, under the new ownership of Wilks Broadcasting, the station changed format to classic hits, taking on the call letters WWFX. The station became an affiliate of the syndicated The Bob & Tom Show and changed its name to "100.1 The Fox". That December, the station was sold to Citadel Broadcasting for $14.25 million. The first on-air personalities at The Fox (other than Bob & Tom) were: Worcester radio legend "Zip", National voice talent Moneen Daley and Program Director Dave Hilton.

In January 2003, the station ditched Bob & Tom and took on an active rock format while keeping the name "The Fox" but identifying as "Worcester's Rock Station." That would be short lived, as in November 2004 the station changed format to classic hits, retaining the WWFX call letters but changing its name to "100 FM The Pike" and ditching its airstaff for a jockless approach."

Looks like no one has bothered to update the page for years as Bruce Palmer has manned the morning show for a couple or three years now and Frank Foley has done the afternoon drive show for a year or more.

You must be friends with Jim Polito.

The WCRN Morning News with Hank and Sherman is the best thing to happen in Worcester morning radio in a long, long time. As I have said before in another thread, if WCRN started a promotional campaign that Hank & Sherman are back together again at WCRN, Jim Polito and WTAG would take a major hit in their morning ratings.

And it is the only Worcester radio station with a local newsroom! If a big breaking news story happened they would be on the scene in minutes. Would Clear Channel fly their news department in from Albany, NY?

actually I know Polito, he does not know me, and i do not enjoy his show tho i have heard it . To paraphrase an astute critic "Hank has been working solo and doing his best Blute imitation, now he has been saddled with this imbecile as a cohort" I long for the radio days of Listol Fisher and Streeter Stuart when the authoratative newsman sat on the other side of the glass and did his best Ted Knight imitation.

So now you have resorted to name calling. I guess Sherman's work at the legendary WBCN must have "dumbed" him down.

I think Sherman brings a wealth of talent to his job and WCRN was very astute to have brought him on board.

Where is Listo Fisher? I remember hearing his newscasts on WRKO, and before that, WHDH.
No reflection on Listo Fisher and Streeter Stewart,
I guess your misspelling goes hand in hand with your priorities that place importance of all Voice and little or no content

Mr Rosen, those old-time guys were more informative than Sherman is, and they didnt make jokes about killing your landlord.

I think his last on-air gig was as a classical music DJ on WCRB, before the WGBH takeover. He started on WBZ in the mid-'70s, right?

I must have missed that in thread. Are you his landlord? How is he as a tenant?
