Worcester will have two Red Sox affiliates in 2007

Entercom VP of AM Programming Jason Wolfe said:
He said, "“WVEI would not compete with WCRN in any way because it has a much, much smaller signal,” Jason Wolfe, Entercom vice president of AM programming and operations, said. “It saves us the trouble of having to come up with alternate programming (on WVEI).”

That is BAD. Apparently they're getting lazy and don't wanna spend the time trying to find anything else, so they just stick on whatever they can. WCRN should protest!

It also doesn't make complete sense. WVEI is a simulcast of WEEI and WEEI will be carrying the Red Sox games only on Friday nights. So, except for Friday nights, WEEI has to provide programming that WVEI could simulcast. So why isn't Entercom restricting all of the Sox simulcasts in Worcester, except those on Friday nights, to WCRN? Are WCRN and WVEI really going to compete to sell availabilities during Sox games? If so, won't the competition drive down the rates, or is there really enough business in Worcester to sell out two stations that are simulcasting?

Well, WVEI has that "extra edge" in Worcester because, I think, they still have their analog AM Stereo pilot light on... :D

being in the walpole/westwood area...i have issues picking up rko, especially at night, will either of those stations be strong enough for me to listen? or is it no Daisuke for me?

4 the Red Sox, listen to 103.7 .

103.7 should come in good for you, yes; I know I was out in Canton and was getting a strong signal there
from WEEI-FM/Westerly. WCRN may also be a good bet

Not so fast -- only 1 station

According to NERW, the Red Sox will replace WTAG-580 with WCRN-830 provided WCRN increases its nighttime power to 50 kw by Opening Day.

New Red Sox flagship WRKO-680 has signal problems in MetroWest at night. The new higher power for WCRN fills the hole.

WVEI-1440 has never carried the Red Sox. WTAG aired the Olde Towne Team for many years and the club didn't want to anger one of its longtime affiliates.

What programming did WVEI air when WEEI used to air Sox games? I didn't know that WVEI was anything more than a WEEI repeater.
