Worcester's 100FM The Pike drops traffic??

Wayyy overslept this morning so I missed the earlier parts of his show but, on Monday and Tuesday, Bruce Palmer was doing his own traffic reports for his morning show on 100FM The Pike. I don't know what company they had been using but their most recent regular traffic reporter, John (Hamlin? Hamblin?), was not heard.

I have to say, though, that the reports Bruce gave were longer and slightly more informative than anything I ever heard John say, not that there's anything much to report about greater Worcester County traffic unless there's a major accident/traffic tieup on I-290 or I-495 or the Mass Pike or even I-190. John's in-report sponsor commercials were always longer than his traffic reports.

"Official" traffic reports on The Pike haven't really been around that long. There weren't any, as I recall, when Bruce Palmer first started The Pike Morning Show a couple of years ago. They picked them up with one company, then I think another company with Ron Madeiros who I believe is a radio personality from Rhode Island, then another company. Ron was ok except that he always sounded half asleep.

I'm guessing that if The Pike has dropped traffic reports, then sister stations WORC and WXLO probably have to.

I live in the city and commute to / from Franklin every day so traffic reports are very important to me. In fact, I will not even get on the Mass Pike before hearing one because as we all know, one very bad accident on the Pike and you could be tied up in traffic for hours.

Taking their traffic reports in-house is not a bad thing especially if as you point out, they are more comprehensive. I actually listen to WCRN-AM 830 in the morning. I wish they would also bring their traffic reports in-house, too. Their current reports are way too Boston centric for a Worcester station.

I did hear Bruce Palmer doing some traffic reports again this morning (nothing overly exciting) so looks like it's in-house. I'll have to try to listen to WORC and/or WXLO Friday morning to see what they are doing.
