WORD

Does anyone know why on earth WORD, now on FM at 106.3, programs an hour of infomercials from 11PM-12AM? With the money that station is likely making, it is definitely not necessary. I've never seen "first rate" talkers in markets this size that do that on a weekday....weekends yes, but 11pm is rather strange.

It doesn't really affect me, as I really don't like WORD as a talker (lose that horrible morning show and air Hannity 6-9PM), but I don't really understand their programming.

Someone must be paying a purty penny.

Do they have a regular advertiser during that hour, or do they just take whoever comes and stick them there?
Either way, it might be better than another hour of Hannity or Hunt, though.

While y'all are at it, will someone tell them to turn the stereo off? Thx

Sometimes I am amazed at the level of "I hate everything" that seems to come across on this board. When every station in the market seems to be computer-canned, what we have here is a station that programs 6 hours a day live and locally produced. Of course a market like Greenville, SC is not likely to have major market talent, but doggone it I don't understand why people think Russ Cassell is so bad. I enjoy him, and think he has been a solid performer in this market for decades. And if it is his politics you don't like, it is my understanding that we're not supposed to discuss that stuff on this board. Their morning and afternoon local shows are just fine for a medium market, and I applaud Entercom for giving us something live and local.

I do agree, however, about the 11pm-12m infomercials. Big turn-off. And I was disappointed in the lack of live coverage when the congresswoman and the others were shot in Arizona a couple of weeks ago. I tried to find info on every news talker I could access from my pickup (WORD, WWNC, WBT, WHKY, even NPR) and found nothing. Seems like CC, Entercom, whoever, could at least call someone in to flip a switch for a live network stream for a major news story.

I don't dislike them politically, I just don't care for the morning show. They just need fresh talent in the morning. They have their following and the station does well, but a change sometime would be nice. I always liked Ralph Bristol's afternoon show when he was there.

Isn't Dave Ramsey 3 hours? They should air the third hour of his program. Hannity 6-9 and Ramsey 9-12 seems like it would be solid for them. Seems like they could have tapped in to FOX after the shooting. They have a small, but good local news department.

I gave up on the mono-stereo thing ages ago, they must be too lazy to fix it or think it sounds better in stereo for some reason.

Perhaps it's because the advertisers enjoy hearing their commercials in stereo. Unless a spot is voice-only, chances are the music and/or jingle background or sound effects are in stereo. The station might be producing their promos and imaging in stereo as well.

Who cares if the commercials are in <STEREO> The other 40 minutes of the hour is talk and I have let to meet a person with a stereo voice ..... All the clients do is send a 128k .mp3, so that should tell you right there that they don't care about quality.

As for Russ, he's ok, most of the time. He has to generate phone calls so that means taking the other side of issues every now and then.

Actually, Ramsey is on 24/7. His live show is daily from 12-3 central. All others are repeats. Liked it better in the afternoon on the 50kw WLFJ-AM. Not to mention is gets out a lot further and no multipath.

I agree about the commercials...most major talkers on FM like WTOP, WSB, WBAP are in mono I believe. Commercials should not keep a station like WORD in stereo. I think it's more an issue of laziness or ignorance.

BTW: I don't hear them mentioning 1330 or 950 anymore on-air. I am shocked Entercom doesn't ditch those or LMA. Absolutely pointless now to simulcast 106.3.

106.3's signal is scratchy in parts of the market.

Not that it would solve the problems completely, but I can't stress how much mono would especially help that signal.

106.3's bad holes are to the west (past the Easley area) and northern Spartanburg county.
