Work in Columbus radio? The talent you pass on your drive to work.

Gotta say...though this certainly started with a Columbus Dispatch video that went viral on YouTube, WNCI is a *big* winner in the publicity battle on this one.

He said "Z107.5", but I don't know the history of the market enough to know if that was a missed remembrance on his part.

Wikipedia says 107.5 used to be WJZA, before the calls moved to 103.5.

107.5 signed on in 1996 as WJZA
From Recnet.com:
BLH-19960213KB Lic to Cover GRANT 10/17/1996
From: HORRANCE BROADCASTING INC
To: BLUE CHIP BROADCASTING, LTD.

It was mostly Urban AC/Urban. Very little production, but he may have been the voice guy when they started out. The timing would be right, just before he really started having hard times. A little over a year later, the Urban format from 106.3(WCKX) was moved to 107.5, along with the calls.

He also mentioned Z103, which may have been 103.1(now WVKO), during their short stint as urban. Whether or not he worked for the smooth jazz WJZA 103.5, I don't know.

Fox News 8 in Cleveland has interviewed him today at the CC Columbus studios. They claim he has excepted a job with the Cleveland Cavs and will
be telling his story tonight on Fox News 8 in Cleveland. He mentioned he did a morning show on WJMO 1490 in Cleveland back in 1987. Looks like
Fox 8 News in Cleveland wants a Cleveland radio connection for their news story.

Here is the Fox 8 video interview:

That guy isn't alone! There are many radio people that have been thrown out. Maybe not homeless, or recovering drug users, but many good, talented people tossed. There are a lot of jobs too, IF the Entercoms, CCs, and others would just give them a job.

"Whether or not he worked for the smooth jazz WJZA 103.5, I don't know".

He did not work for the jazz stations. When Blue Chip let go of the calls, we went after them for 103.5. We then changed the calls for 104.3 to WJZK.

How cool is this...Good luck to this gentleman..If you been in radio for any length of time...at some point you've been near homeless..I hope this guy finds a gig....He 's got the pipes for sure....

I'm going to do a followup on this tomorrow.

Can we list all the stations he worked for?

Here's what seems like a list of the stations I've seen so far:

WJZA/107.5
WVKO/1580 (in urban/soul format)
The currently named WVKO-FM/103.1 (is this the "Z" he mentions, or is 107.5, or both? I forget the "Z" calls for 103.1, WSMZ?)
WJMO/1490 (Cleveland market, licensed to Cleveland Heights)

If he gets a job with Clear Channel, They may have him voice track from inside a cardboard box. (his home).
