You might be working in SLO, but chances are you won't be able to afford to live there. Although beautiful, California's Central Coast is one of the most expensive places in the nation. In SLO, only 9% of the population can afford a home, and rent is high because of a housing crunch caused by all the college students. Rent in Los Osos or Santa Maria is much more reasonable.
The biggest operator in the market is AGM. They are a fair company with good people, but meager pay and benefits- I worked there for a few years in the 1990s. Mapleton and ElDorado are the other players. I haven't worked for either but have friends who have. Mapleton gutted KOTR, one of the most loved radio stations in the 80's and 90's, and they're known for running lean and mean. El Dorado just bought the CC stable of stations in SLO-SM, and they're first order of business was to show a bunch of long timers the door. KCBX, the local NPR station, is excellent and very popular.
