Working on Christmas Eve - Christmas Day

The bad -
When I was PD of a small station in Virginia, I made up a Christmas Day air shift schedule from volunteers/single folks who had no nearby family and didn't mind working on the holiday, so those of us with family could have the day off. When the skinflint GM found out, he said "No way. I have to work Christmas Day, and so should eveyone else. Do the normal schedule." So I backtracked and went back to the normal schedule. The Boss did come in for Christmas Day...for ONE HOUR!

The good -
Was working at a different station in Virginia. We were assigned our normal air shifts on Christmas, but one air staffer, who was Jewish, volunteered to do a 12-hour shift so two of us could have the day off to spend with our families. What a nice present.

Is that you, Larry? Did you call your mother? And how is Uncle John? If it's not you, ignore me please. Thank you...

i worked at a small daytimer in the 70s the owner would not hire any part timers so
the full time staff (4 of us) had to work all holidays. we came up with a plan each of
us took a holiday and worked from 6a to 4:45.......nothing like working all day

It would be interesting to hear from any of our troops serving in Iraq or Afghanistan how insignificant some of the complaints on this string have been.
