World Cup on Radio | KWKW | KSPN

With the fine job that ESPN is doing with the 2010 World Cup on TV, the radio coverage of it has been underwhelming so far in this market. Was scanning the dial trying to find radio coverage of the game on any of the listenable LA & San Diego signals, and happened to find the coverage on KWKW (in English!). KWKW is normally the home to ESPN in Spanish, so it was interesting to see them delivering the English language feed, with the network fed English commercials as well.

The LA Times listed KDLE/KDLE as having the Spanish language play by play.

I can understand that KSPN, as the flagship home of the Lakers was focused that away until now, but I would expect to see KSPN "own" the World Cup in this town from here on forward, especially the USA - Algeria game on Wednesday morning (7a PDT), and then all the games in the knockout rounds.

Lastly, curious as to why KLAA was fully simulcasting KSPN for Games 6 and 7 of the NBA Finals. There is much overlap in their coverage maps, so what was the incentive for KLAA to do so?

The Entravision web site also lists Gato as having the games. How is that possible that Gat and KWKW would both have them?

ESPN has the English language rights, but not Spanish. The Spanish language rights are held by Andres Cantor's Futból de Primera and Entravision has the LA affiliation and the IE affiliation.

KSPN does not have the best night signal in OC, and KLAA does not have a good night coverage of anything north of downtown LA... so the signals complement each other to some extent.
