World Cup on Radio?

So is ESPN Radio going to preempt its programming for all these games, or have a separate feed? Most of these games will be happening during Mike and Mike, which is ESPN Radio's featured talent. I couldn't imagine them being preempted for Ghana Vs. Brazil or something.

It's going to be on ESPN Radio Deportes with English subtitles. You have to have a fantasy soccer team to completely understand the magnitude of this
historic broadcasting endeavor.

The way the promos sound here, "the World Cup is coming to ESPN Radio." They don't mention Deportes or any other channel but the one the commercials are on.

All the USA matchups and something like the last 2 rounds are on ESPN Radio, they're going to broadcast more games but the early round games are being fed on an alternate channel that very few affils will pick up. I've seen a schedule and it's mostly weekend broadcasts and a couple of weekday preemptions of either the Herd or SVP.

Here it is, straight from their press release: ESPN Radio will broadcast 13 matches live on its main channel – the three US Team matches in the round robin phase, two matches in the round of 16, four quarterfinals matches, the two semifinals, the third place and final matches. Affiliates will distribute the remaining games separately.

probably soccer because not that many people in the US cares about soccer

Have you ever been to a Circle K managers' meeting? That's all they talk about.

It's still looking like a Celtic Laker final, so that won't be too bad for affiliates. I'll still take Soccer over baseball.

Question- will the affiliates hate having the NBA games or this stuffed down their throat more?

Several years ago ESPN started moving their PxP to their main channel I loved it because I didn't have to wire a bunch of different channels in to the board and reconfigure the computer to change to their MLB channel for sunday night games, it makes it easier on the fully automated stations.

I checked the schedule for WEPN and, while they don't have anything for Friday, they do have six matches on the radio for Saturday and Sunday. So I guess your best bet if you want to catch matches is during weekends and during US games.

The last USA matchup did not clear on Columbus OH's 97.1 the Fan. Well, it technically did, as they put the game on WBNSAM 1460 basically giving the World Cup a big... F U! They had their Saturday morning guys come in to fill the time on the FM. It was greatly appreciated!

I listened to the last five minutes of the Algeria game exciting! Soccer in America is what it is.
