World News Round-Up Turns 70

Today marks 70 years since the first broadcast of the World News Round-Up, or as Nick Young intro'd this morning "and 70 candles on our cake."

Here's today's podcast version of the morning roundup:

http://audio.cbsnews.com/2008/03/13/audio3933817.mp3

The look back comes in what would be the second main block of the round up (the block that would end with "time on the round up is eight minutes past the hour"). CBS edits the time checks out for the podcast, so that makes it a little different than listening live.

Also, more good information at:

There is a video from the Early Show on cbsnews.com

Finally, Bill Whitney also did a look back on tonight's "Late Edition," which is not available online.

Congrats to CBS! It should be no surprise, however, that one of the classiest radio news programs has lasted so long.

WWJ 950, Detroit also did an excellent piece on the history of the Round-up, but I couldn't find it online.

What year was the Weekend Round-up added?
