World Series Blacked Out in Boston

I thought Weei ended the simulcast years ago? They seem to be using 850 again for various things. They usually always have the world series at least on the AM are they really that bad off? Doesn't make sense from a programming view.

There is no simulcast. It is ESPN Radio programming except for BC crap and, for some reason, Mustard & Johnson on Saturday mornings.

Did your ESPN affiliate carry Packers-Chiefs last night instead or just talk?

Locally NFL games air on KDKA-FM. ESPN 970 did carry the Steelers-Dolphins game because they are part of the Steelers network. (because the Steelers' contract with iHeart requires that the games be simulcast in Pittsburgh on both AM and FM.....don't ask me why.)

WEEI-FM 93.7 is in ratings competition with 98.5 WBZ-FM "The Sports Hub". WEEI 850 AM now has so few listeners that it is no longer significant ratings competition against "The Sports Hub".

I'd think WEEI wouldn't want to put programming on 850 that may draw listeners from 93.7 and even slightly dilute 93.7's ratings against 98.5 if they don't have to, unless it's their only way to get a game on the air in Boston due to conflicts.

They probably figured that enough out of market AMs carry the World Series that the casual fan could easily find it somewhere by surfing the AM dial.

I very much doubt that a programmer (or an executive above them) in 2019 made a decision based on whether or not stations in other markets might air the same program. Hell, I very much doubt that such a phenomenon occurred back when AM listenership was widespread.
