Death was sadly, a great career move. I seem to remember reading about stations scrambling to add Jackson back into the library upon his sudden death.

It's often the case, especially among younger artists whose music still fits a format who die suddenly.

On August 16, 1977, I was programming KUKI in Ukiah. I went to lunch and had KFRC on in the car on the way over.

When I came out 40 minutes later, KFRC was playing "Can't Help Falling In Love With You", and I knew instantly that Elvis Presley had died. KFRC didn't play 15-year-old records. And, as with his future-son-in-law 32 years later, Elvis' record sales and airplay spiked for several months after.
