Worst Audio Engineering Award

The award for worst audio engineering and sound goes to

KCOL-FM, Groves / Beaumont / Port Arthur

for having a classic hits station on FM sound like an AM station from the 1960s. Actually, AM had a lot better sound quality in the 1960s than what has been on KCOL for DAYS. Does Clear Channel even have an engineer anymore for the Golden Triangle? Do they care?

The station now is just plain unlistenable - it would be better to power down the transmitter.

Have you tried listening to KIXS Victoria? They have NO mids in the sound to much base and triple. sounds horrible. KBAR only works on one side seems like a lot of the time.

KCOL-FM/Groves would be number 2 on my list. KIXS is actually a bit comical. They took the downgrade to allow KQQK/Beaumont to get better coverage of Houston, and has Kicks 108 suffered since.

My vote goes to KYOK-Conroe/Houston at 1140 AM. I'll let you tune in to KYOK yourself to see exactly what is, and has been, wrong with the legendary "YOK" for the better part of 2 months.

Ever since KIXS downgraded I have been checking out KYKM more and more simulcast of KTXM and KTXM finally got their tower going, its more powerful now. My radio inside can actually pick it up pretty well. Just wish it was stereo broadcast.
