Worst classic hits station?

I'm going to put KLTH in Portland & KKLZ in Las Vegas that are the worst programed classic hits stations in the country because they repeat a lot. The rest of the stations aren't even that bad. Any others that you can think of besides KKLZ & KLTH?

The worst one would be whatever one plays the most Disco, in my opinion. (Whichever one that is.) :p

I think that Classic Hits stations would be A LOT better if they stayed away from Disco!!

WLS-FM --- bad repetition, ugly branding as "Classic Hits" is thrown in your face every other word by every DJ. Nothing special or unique about it. Ugly all around.

KLTH appears to be an almost exact clone of WRIT Milwaukee, both even have the same logo - Clear Channel at its best.

In my opinion, Disco is essential to the format. It gives several stations more urban appeal. Without it, we'd be stuck with Classic Rock basically - which is what WLS is. I used to wish a few country, folk, or harder rock songs would also be integrated into the format - never really happened - but to kill off another "genre" (term used lightly) would make for even less interesting listening.

I don't know about today, but I would have to say KRTH was one of the worst in the 1990's, with high repetition, motown heavy, no major specialties and a very short playlist back then (300 or so, recycled daily!)

97.1 WRQQ, Nashville, TN. Owned by Cumulus (at the time). They would play the SAME song as many as FOUR times straight every Monday afternoon! You would think that SOMEONE would have been in the office who could have checked up on it! And they beat the 'RQQ call letters into our heads! They were even briefly known as "the Tower" for a while. This station was ROUTINELY lampooned on the Nashville boards here. Last year, they finally sold off the station to K-Love, so it is a K-Love station now. Undoubtedly programmed better than when Come-in-last had it! ::)

3WS in Pittsburgh. Too repetitive. Not-so appealing personalities. Makes me long for the days when it was WPEZ [94.5] in the '70s.

Researching each station's website and playlist I'm beginning to wonder - what's a good classic hits station? I have yet to find one that isn't internet only.

What's a good classic hits station? It's a station that plays ALL the classic hits....Interesting concept huh??

Agreed. Compare an hour (midnight to 1 a.m.) of WROR Boston, which takes a very whitebread, classic rock approach, to the same hour of WDRC-FM Hartford, which actually manages to offer a surprise or two, although overall its playlist is not as large as it once was:

WROR
No Matter What -- Badfinger
Sharp Dressed Man -- ZZ Top
A Horse with No Name -- America
American Woman -- Guess Who
Take It Easy -- Eagles
Touch Me -- Doors
You May Be Right -- Billy Joel
Fooled Around and Fell in Love -- Elvin Bishop
Time of the Season -- Zombies
Money for Nothing -- Dire Straits
Mainstreet -- Bob Seger
You Don't Mess Around with Jim -- Jim Croce
Can't Buy Me Love -- Beatles

WDRC-FM
Got to Get You Into My Life -- Beatles
Come On Eileen -- Dexy's Midnight Runners
Ride Captain Ride -- Blues Image
Bad Girls -- Donna Summer
Welcome Back -- John Sebastian
Harden My Heart -- Quarterflash
Hopelessly Devoted to You -- Olivia Newton-John
I Heard It Through the Grapevine -- Marvin Gaye
Miracles -- Jefferson Starship
Walking in Memphis -- Marc Cohn
September -- Earth, Wind & Fire
Up Around the Bend -- CCR
The Tide Is High -- Blondie
You're No Good -- Linda Ronstadt
Venus -- Shocking Blue
Love Is Alive -- Gary Wright

And as a little bonus, here's what was playing on WBOQ Gloucester, MA, which is only a rimshotter in Boston's northern suburbs while concentrating its coverage on extreme northeastern MA and a bit of southern NH:
All I Ever Need is You -- Sonny & Cher
Falling -- LeBlanc & Carr
Dance to the Music -- Sly & the Family Stone
Secret Lovers -- Atlantic Starr
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry -- B.J. Thomas
Get Ready -- Rare Earth
Rag Doll -- Four Seasons
Tired of Toein' the Line -- Rocky Burnette
Burning Love -- Elvis Presley
Tragedy -- Bee Gees
Come Monday -- Jimmy Buffett
Reach Out I'll Be There -- Four Tops
Swayin' to the Music (Slow Dancin') -- Johnny Rivers
Kind of a Drag -- Buckinghams

Oh, the stuff you can get away with playing far from those major market people meters and ad buyers...

I'll take WDRC in a heartbeat over the one in Boston. More true to TOP40. WROR resembles Classic Rock Lite more than a Classic Hits station.

Disco needs to be in the format. From 1975 to 1979 they were as much a hit is the same old rock retreads. I like the fact Oldies 103.7 has somewhat of a decent playlist.

That was the same deal on 99.7 KFRC when they were oldies in the 90's. They were good for a while but never freshened up the playlist and ran the usuall suspects (Motown giant hits, Brown Eyed Girl, Beatles, etc) into the ground..and I mean hard. People finally caught on to it when "My Girl" was getting more spins in a 24 hour period than the current #1 record. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit :p

The worst station is the one that makes you feel like you're running on a treadmill. It's the one that makes you weary of some of your favorite songs. It's the type of station that makes you so sick of their static playlist that you end up not even bothering in to tune in for days at a time. Maybe a contest will entice you to turn the radio on, but it won't be for their music. The worst station is the one that bores you to the extent that you want to hear just about any song except for the exact same ones they play day in and day out. You've had to hear them so often that your ears have grown numb. You know exactly which songs they are, because you find that they get on your nerves even though they are actually great songs. And the songs that you've never liked are almost unbearable when you know you will be hearing them every single day, if you dare to tune in for more than just a song or two while in the car. A few minutes may be fine, but a few hours? Uh, NO! You station hop constantly in the car, not because you prefer the other stations but because you just can't hang with the same old six and seven that your favorite station dishes out every single day. Am I hitting home with anyone?

A mighty AMEN to this brother! And now, I'm turning up my favorite online station - where all this hits live in harmony together - four decades worth of the best music ever created.

My contribution to this thread: 100% agree with RIN3GUY. I have no words to add to that, he said how I feel perfectly.

My new favorite station "The Zephyr 96.7" is a LPFM in Zephyrhills/Dade City, FL with a great online stream:

http://rdray.com/WZPH/index.htm

60s, 70s, and some 80s - heavy on the 70s. Playlist of over 10,000 songs, nothing repeated for months at a time. No commercials.

They have a record of 5 years of non-stop songs without interruption, now over 1,000,000 songs in a row. Great variety, you never know what you might hear next. Just what I love!

Check it out and see what you think. I discovered this station by accident when visiting my mom, who lives in Zephyrhills. The signal reaches her place, but barely. Now that I bought a new Internet Radio, it's easier to tune in and listen to the stream.

That would be phenomenal, especially for the power songs. Will check it out.
