WORST DJs In Seattle

all this type of post does is to further the hate, mudslinging, and all out fowl and putrid negativity that we do not need. This is all subject to one persons oppionion...and you know what they say about those...like A-holes and everyone has one.

There are some jocks that are better at the fundamentals, know how to put together a solid break, that do not laundry list, puke, and ramble on, but those are things that a GOOD PD should be workign on with his or her talent.

Instead why talk about some talent that you can say does an excellent job, and WHY. Cite examples of what makes them good. Not just cuz you like them, work for them, or intern for them. Tell us why so an so in the AM is soo good, how compelling of content do they have and what was it that made it so good. Or how did so an so in PMD do a really good break with a listener request, using the phones, making it about the listener and not about themselves. How did they create a good payoff that was not forced, canned, or contrived. Share with us why this PM show is good at what they do. How do they build tsl with their countdown show that is different that what we have heard in the past oh 15 years.....Share the success stories, help others improve but don't single them out in such a forum that trashes them and hurts them.

I've seen too much hate mongoring on this board and have been guilty of myself so I apolpgize and hope that in the future this could be a forum of something other than mud slinging and gossip, but then again that might be too much to ask for seeing as how after it's radio and what would radio be with out the ego's the backstabbing, the lies, and the all out bs.

Happy posting!

I addressed this a while back in a post. I agree that it is important to be supportive of radio on boards like this that are read by advertisers and radio folk alike. It is also possible to be critical in an objective way and offer suggestions for improvement. The KCMS Morning show does an excellent job of presenting their format and executing the mechanics of a Christian music station. The format has gotten a bit off track in recent months, including an odd Halloween Christmas music marathon. I am not sure what Halloween has to do with Christmas. I feel Eric Powers does a fine job as an afternoon talent at KUBE, so does Marcus D at KBKS. Tyler is a professional night talent. There is the next level of talent in Seattle that have heritage and execute the mechanics well, they only fall short on new creative approach, relying instead on benchmarks. I would put Bob Rivers, Dave Ross and Kent and Alan on this next level. The entire KZOK staff fits at this level, which is part of why the station out-performs the music parameter. Talent with potential include BJ Shea, KBSG's morning host and the morning show on KIRO. Talent that miss the mark, sound small market, but with coaching could be improved include Jackie and Bender and Fitz...plus most of the rest of the market. There are some talent that just miss on all levels. I will resist the urge to name them or their stations. It is fairly evident to any listener. Top level talent are defined by Creativity, Heritage, Community Service, Fit for the Format and professional execution at all levels. Few have all of these qualities. None in Seattle, in my humble opinion.

Bob Rivers is versatile and satisfies a pretty big audience I have have gone sick of may of their pop culture blabfests. To me there are also too many voices on the show now. I still flip by it but usually flip away real quick too.

BJ Shea knows what he is going for and I occasionally field a segment about politics / religion that is honest / unique / well-done or a segment that is silly but works but too much is similar to Tom Leykis and I am not interested in that repetitive female bashing to the nth degree stuff.

I know the pain of listening to Jocks who drive you crazy, but there is an easy solution. Change the channel, if that could be applied to any facet of life....... ::). I would be satisfied with outcomes of the day more often than not. The problem with the radio is that if you are listening to your favorite material, such as specific music or talk and changing the channel is like being cut out of the conversation, then yes, by all means.........critique. I like to listen to late night talk radio on my way home from work, late at night. I cant listen the the "BUZZ" talk radio, because Tom Lykis seems to have been religated to the late night slot. Long ago, I can remember listening to him expound on the Democratic Party when Clinton was up for re-election. He was popular at the time, and swore that if his ratings dropped, he would quit at the top. Of course that was two wives, and increased alimony. I guess its all relative when your credability is what Tom's is.

...so does Marcus D at KBKS. Tyler is a professional night talent.

Might want to update your original post just a bit, see'ing as how Marcus D has been in
San Fransisco for almost 3 months now, while Tyler is now afternoons at KISS.

As far as other good/ solid talent.

Mornings belong to T-man. Hate him or Love him, this guy continues to dominate
Middays, i would say Maynard on MOViN does a okay job, caller interaction would get him out of sounding VT'd (although its gotten better)
I agree Eric Powers, being solid in afternoon drive... however the Tyler/ Nina combo on KBKS is pretty entertaining.
Nights, im kinda at loss with that daypart, there have been alot of changes recently so im not to cought up with that.

For the best radio in Seattle, I have four letters:

K Z O K

Period.

Re: radioprofessor's WORST DJs In Seattle

Dear Radioprofessor,

It would be nice for you to use your real name so that we could know whether or not to take your advice. I'm sure BJ would be glad to know that you think he has "potential"...what are you kidding me??? Fitz sounds small market??? Come on dude, if you are going to make those kinds of calls then have the balls to use your real name. Better yet, set up a meeting with us and let’s have lunch to see what we can learn from you. Fitz's years of experience in those small markets of Houston and Dallas just didn't give him the sound you are looking for? I'm sorry bro but there is nothing "humble" about your positing. Look around, the radio biz is a tough place for everyone right now. We would be better off trying to figure out ways to help take care of each other instead of slamming people under an alias. Seattle is a large market and people are here because they have talent. They may not have the sound you are looking for, but that doesn't make them small market or horrible jocks...but that's just my humble opinion. Drop me an email at [email protected] and I will grab Fitz and we can do lunch...I will bring my note pad.

Since I no longer consult in Seattle my opinion is not worth your time any longer. I will refrain from posting on this board. Please remember this thread was dredged up from months ago. In the end it is the ratings that count. Since I first posted BJ has continued to grow living up to the "potential" I mentioned back in Fall and his numbers continue to grow. As for the other comments made I will let the ratings speak for themselves as to which shows are stronger. As you request I will no longer post on this board.

Dear Tony,

If you, Fitz and your Entercom co-workers are getting your panties in a wad over something posted on a radio message board then you really need to do some serious thinking. Why would any GOOD consultant who's worth the money waste valuable time posting on a message board?

Dude, focus on your show, not some anonymous comments on the Web. Do what we do where I work: Read the posts, laugh at most of them and move on.

Amen Brother Rob ;D
These are just fun ole sites and don't take em too serious Tony or Prof. Seem ya both got your panties in a wad
I know lots of PD's and consultants and board ops who post here under anonymous titles and that is what makes it so damn fun. Look for the shreds of truth amidst da crap :-X
The one shred of truth in the prof's posts is that the ratings matter but in the case of Fitz against Ichabod it ain't all about talent. Fitz is fighting a lack of marketing, some internal confusion outside the morning show and a heritage mornin dude across the street. Makes the battle tough no matter how much talent ya got :)

Yeah I usually refrain from positing, but for some reason I just couldn't resist. I have to agree that it isn't worth the elevated BP but it really does make you feel better to just let it all fly out sometimes. I'm just stupid enough to do it under my real name. I will try to come up with a clever alias so that I can really tell you how I feel! ;D I really hope for the best for all of us! I have to go now, Fitz needs his car washed.

Wait.... actually, I don't think I count. I'm not a "DJ ON THE AIR" in the Seattle area... however I am a DJ THAT LIVES IN the Seattle area....

Can I still suck? (insert joke/slam here)
