The worst show in Jacksonville had to have been late 2000-early 2001, when Bargain Bob tried selling crap on Talk Radio 970 during morning drive in an attempt to compete with WJXR. Thank goodness I was in class mornings and couldn't work that shift. I so badly wanted to crank call him and declare, "Doug Stephan rules!"
I used to listen to Lex & Terry before The Greaseman returned, then I was hooked on him until the station changed format. After that, I didn't return to L&T. Instead, I punched around among Arf on 100.7, Randy Clemens on the new 106.5, and later, John Harrell on The Point. I suppose I began to crave music when I convinced myself that nobody could replace Grease! I agree, Don was great with what he had.
For brief periods in the last couple of years, I tried following the Morning Zoo and Arthur's show, but one's music turned me off, and the other, while it wasn't bad, wasn't "must listen" material to me being a young male. I also sampled the new MGD show in its first few weeks, and if I had an hour or two at a time to listen, I might enjoy it more. Maybe I just don't have the time to devote to a mostly talk show now. I recall what I said about Planet Radio post-Bubba: if Chasey held down the morning shift with just music and being herself, I would listen. These days, I catch the headlines on WOKV as soon as I wake up (since I can pick it up pre-sunrise now), and that's about it.
I remember back in the 80's listening to Hoyle & Fizz, and two different morning shows on 97 WAIV (the names escape me at the moment), and having plenty of good material to share on the playground. Now, not so much. I make up my own kickers as I talk up the post to a jockless XM channel!
