Worst radio companies

THEMAN, so nice that you are waiting for my input on this...it's obvious that you have nothing better to do with your time, than sit around and see who is writing bad things about you. Sad, so very sad! But being that you asked, here goes:
WORST COMPANY: We all know who it is, the company that comes in a takes over stations, reduces staff, expands workload but doesn't pay to reflect it, goes satelite, voice trakcs from other markets, uses the "we own them all" mentality!!

Isn't it obvious? Now that I've described the worst company, YOU, THEMAN, put the name of this WORST company here:__________________________________.

Worst radio companies - Pacific Empire in Idaho & Blueberry. Wouldn't work there if you paid me hundreds of dollars to!

Care to state reasons?

And Icy, to take it a step further (without hijacking your thread), what would you consider your ideal company to work for; why would it be the ideal company; what would you present as your qualifications to entice them to hire you at this time?

I can think of more than one company fitting that description.

Radio is show business. If you don't make any money relative to your compensation, why should you continue to be employed?

Doesn't pay to reflect the workload? Stop accepting the paycheck. If you want to work for a pittance, that's your choice.

Goes satellite and voice tracks from other markets? Guess what, that's the only way you're going to get talented people on the radio in Rutland, VT. Ryan Seacrest is not walking through that door. Elvis Duran is not walking through that door.

A person who can communicate well will always find employment. That employment is not on a small-town radio station anymore.

Seriously? Is Rutland that bad, or are you, as I suspect, referring to the economy?

Rutland ain't New York and Los Angeles. That's what I'm saying. The stations just don't make enough money to attract that class of broadcaster.

No one expects to make NY or LA money working in Northern New England. Not sure how you got that from my previous post.

It's not a question of talent, obviously. There are a lot of talented people not OTA right now because of the radioi economy only being able to support x number of 25-30k jobs, not because people are asking for a 6 figure income.

Of course it's a question of talent. Why pay $25K to a liner card reader when you can syndicate Bob and Sheri for $25K?

I thought most people on this board were of the 'let's keep it local' philosophy. Guess I was wrong. (Unless you're just playing Devil's Advocate)

I'm of the "run a responsible operation that doesn't waste money" philosophy. A lot of what I hear on the radio is a waste of money.

Do you think a talented local jock making 25k is a waste of money? If you do, we're done here.

A talented local jock who is given the freedom to relay information and wit to his/her audience is a steal for only $25,000. To spend that expense on a person who is given no creative control by the PD/GM/consultant is an exercise in futility.

20 years ago you could get by on 25-30G's a year.
How do you tell your wife and kids, sorry we can't live in a nice place and own nice things, Daddy wants to be a talented radio star.

What small market station paid it's jocks $25k 20 years ago? I'll bet there are plenty who aren't getting that today.

This is a good thing Icy...because I do not believe Blueberry or any other self respecting broadcast company would pay you a hundred dollars to do a live air shift here in Maine or in Utah. After reading your scathing remarks here and in the thread you had moved to the "take it outside" section of this site I can sense some really deep seeded resentment towards the industry you claim to aspire domination of with no mention of actual on air experience. Listen guy...hearing a station...in fact listening to many stations does not make an expert out of anybody. There are very talented people that view and post on this site daily and each of them paid their dues...believe me...before getting where they are now. Nobody is going to hand the keys to you walking in off the street saying "hey, I heard better radio in Utah and that makes me qualified to run this place so please mail my hundred dollars to this bank and show me to my office!" First off...stop it with the random mud slinging...name names, give examples, prove your point with justified opinions not hatred against non-streaming stations or formats you don't approve of. A wise man once told me..."you can't pick your format...just be glad you have a job if this is what you truly want to do." He was right, and I don't spend my time spitting venom at people who work at other stations or other companies or other formats...you have a lot to learn before you can stand...never mind run anything regarding broadcasting. So Ice Man....call up Slider, Maveric and Goose and collect your thoughts. Good luck though and by all means keep us New Englanders updated on your quest...we can always use the show prep.
