Worst snow closings graphics

Worst? What's so bad about them? Frankly, I don't see anything particularly odd about them aside from the fact that the stations' sales staffs managed to get sponsorships for them (something not seen in a lot of markets). But "worst"? I don't think so.

How come they only show one business/school at a time? I know some channels show up to 2 or 3 business/school closings or delays at a time. One at a time will take forever if the list is long.

Those graphics are beautiful compared to the ones I see in the Terre Haute, IN market. WTHI-TV runs a graphic that occupies literally the whole lower third, and squeezes the other portion of the picture. The sponsor logo is on the left, the "News 10" logo is on the right, with the school name and status in the center.

Exactly.

The OP needs to get out beyond his local area a little more. There are some absolutely hideous graphics packages on local stations in many of the small to midsize markets. Much worse than the ho-hum ones shown here.

If you wanna see worse, check out these from your neighbors in St. Louis:

Feh -- compared with KC, they're practically on-par. At least on KSDK, you see the whole picture of the program, instead of the closings covering up the picture.

...of course, nothing from the ABC affiliate ::)

Though maybe that'll change soon once KSDK starts putting news there.

Along the same tangent, while in Orlando for an overnighter last month, it was in the midst of a cold snap. Many of the networked stations placed the current temperature on one of the screens. Personally, showing the temp is kind of ridiculous, as it varies in other parts of the market; also most people have a thermometer to see how cold it is in their area.

KDNL's KSDK newscast is likely pre-taped. That's right, it does not air live. *snooze*

Speaking of "ridiculous"...no station does a 7-day forecast for Flagstaff or northern Arizona here. It's all Phoenix, all the time. *yawn*

Yes, KDNL's newscast is pre-recorded -- and seen opposite KSDK's own newscast, From KDNL's Wikipedia article:

"KDNL General Manager Tom Tipton stated that the station did not want to run simulcasted or re-purposed newscasts in its efforts to return daily news broadcasts to the station. It appears the KSDK-produced newscasts on KDNL are pre-taped in advance featuring news anchor Courtney Gousman, Chief Meteorologist Cindy Preszler, and reporter Leslie Faus."

When I was in Vegas this past July, independent KTUD-CA "VEGAS TV" simulcasted KSNV's 5 PM news, but not only that, they simulcasted
EVERYTHING KSNV aired. Commercials, news promos, just like what a LPTV translator would do.

Should KDNL do the same?

I don't see anything wrong with these. Some of my locals force the programming into a small box and the bottom and the sides are full of graphics.

They still take up more of the screen than they need to. They don't need the entire bottom of screen. Fox4's wouldn't be so bad if they could display them in HD (besides the news). Do they need to shrink the picture for some border with no info
