WORST SONG OF THE YEAR?

It took six months but we have a winner...

"Got Your Back" by T.I. f/ Keri Hilson

This may take the song as the worst of the decade. Not only is the premise week but the lyrics are so gawd-awful you want to scar your eardrums so you will not have to listen to it again.

Keri Hilson has been around awhile now and I guess the only reason she took this gig with T.I. is to get street cred. I've been ambivalent about her in the past but now she is a joke. You don't normally think of R&B singers as cheesy yet she comes across as the Jonas Brothers of R&B... that's pretty bad.

There is no shortage of pop tunes taking popular slang and making a 3.5 minute song out of it (i.e. Get your freak on - Missy Elliot) but if I hear another "i gotta-gotta-gotta your back boy" I will "gotta-gotta-gotta" tape her mouth so she'll stop singing.

Spose - I'm Awesome. Stupidest song of the decade hands down. IMO, La Roux's Bulletproof is also getting annoying. It's also another terrible song IMO, but I'm Awesome is just pure stupidity.

If that TI ft Keri Hilson beat all the songs on the list, then it must have cheated.
To be perfectly honest though, the only reason I REALLY came into this topic (honestly) was to see if KE$HA was brought up.

True Story.

I really don't have to say more because as you can see.........

ANYWAY, I should make it very clear; I don't hate KE$HA. I just think some of her overall music productions are a joke.

Ke$ha is Diddy's way of telling the world he can polish a terd. All the pop producers have one, don't they?

I really don't like Got Your Back either. Normally, it takes awhile for a song to grow on me, but this one is just not working. T.I. sounds boring coming out of jail. Any time he does an R&B song, it sounds repetitive and I become very tired of it quick.

Ke$ha is dumb but catchy.

Spose was cool.... a very dumb song, but that was the purpose of the song and he knows it. I heard another song released by him and it was pretty good. Heard it in Illinois.

I think the premise of the song is great: that someone's got your back. But I agree the lyrics are kind of weak and T.I. sounds very "pop" on this song, like he lost his edge. Keri's vocal very much reminds me of "Knock You Down".

Not a great song but I expect better from T.I. especially coming out of jail.

So state penitentiaries have become the muses for today's songwiters?! What happened to the days of the Brill Building! :)

I can't help but to have TI's back these days ever since he has moved on to positive and meaningful lyrics. That's what I appreciate most about him. While most people who share my ethnic background are acting up, causing people to have certain stereotypes...etc then getting upset and reacting absurdly when the result of their own actions create a situation, I'm glad TI is at least trying to lift people up or say something that people can actually learn from nowadays.

I wasn't excited when I first heard the song then realized how popular it was becoming, but as boring as it may be, I can tolerate it knowing that it is lyrically positive for a change. I'm not sure what his recent non radio music is like, but at least the ones I'm hearing from TI a lot of these days do reflect positivity. Nothing downgrading the very police officers who put their lives on the line to protect the public, including those who choose to do things to make police go after them or profile certain types then hate them because of it.

I actually like the T.I./Keri Hilson song and thought it was pretty catchy. I especially like the "keep it looking good for you, keep it looking hood for you" hook. It certainly wouldn't be in my list of worst CHR songs of the year.

It's actually hard to find a really bad song right now because overall, CHR is sounding better than it has in years. If I had to pick one song from the past year I really don't like, I'd probably pick Lil Wayne's "Every Girl". (I guess that's more of a rhythmic CHR track, but it's just stupid). I'm also still a bit surprised at the success of Usher's "OMG". It's grown a bit on me, but I still think it's boring and doesn't have much of a hook.

It worked for Johnny Cash, didn't it? He even toured the jails.

You are right about that... Top 40 is sounding as good as it ever has.... we have gotten away from the extremes of A/C and heavy R&B. We are living in one of the better times for CHR. With Atlanta, though, we have to pick our Top 40 tunes from various sources since they all cannot reside under one antenna. It may be in law books somewhere. Maybe our new governor can change that next year.

However, there is always a dog in the crowd and that dog is "Got Your Back."

T.I.'s "I'm Back" song should get more airplay than Got Your Back. But since this is a CHR/Pop forum, I'm Back would only be played on CHR/Rhythmic/Urban stations, if they're smart. Got Your Back is the worst T.I. song he have ever put out.

I have 2 words: Waka Waka. ::) Worst piece of noise I've heard in ages.

I forgot about that song... you're right, what a terrible song. Worst ever actually... for some reason the title reminds me of Pac-Man... ;D

Hadn't heard that yet. I think I would give that award to Ke$ha "Blah Blah Blah".

I'd give it to "Tik Tok", but I wouldn't argue with "Blah Blah Blah" either.

I can't stand "Blah Blah Blah". At first, I couldn't stand "My First Kiss" (the song she does with 3OH3), but that ridiculous tune is actually starting to grow on me. Grrr....
