Worst sounding station in the market??

Ok so we were discussing on one thread the audio quality of KCBQ and the others, but what gets your vote for the worst sounding (fidelity not programming) of all the FM's in San Diego TODAY??

Mine is
91X and 92.5 these days!

Somebody at 91X and 92.5 can't keep their hands off the keyboard-the processor settings change frequently. My vote is for 93.3. Most clipping
and smashed highs.

KOGO is pretty pathetic, look at the numbers. They are b---- slapped by their LA sister station
on a regular basis. The CC toadies haven't made it a priority and have allowed that San Diego
back water attitude to prevail. Hedgecock is past his prime, Ladonna is going nowhere, Chip
Franklin has talent but needs more direction, and Rush's core is pushing 60. The station
is all cut and paste, no style, no attitude. Compare that to KFI, which CC has enough sense
to leave alone.

Also a word to the wise. Nobody cares about HD except Ibiquity & the stooge engineers like Littlejohn who
promoted this Trojan horse. The consumer has voted and said no thanks.

This was about fidelity and I said at the beginning FM stations only.

By the way 91X sounds like an AM radio station. Ever since Tracy Johnson got there that station sounded terrible, and I dont know why he got rid of what Rick Thomas had done with Magic's sound but it is un-listenable now!

Tracy did the same thing with Star 100.7 and Jack 100.7.

933 is very very squashed along with 94.1 but none as bad as 91.1. At least 96.1 has some bass and some highs, just isnt in stereo!

The LF stations dont sound bad but they dont sound great either? with 96.5 though the processing has always sounded like they have rolled off the highs to about 12khz then compressed it to the point of fatigue.

Uh... Tracy Johnson is at 91X? When did THAT happen? I'm not aware of any such news story about that?

When I was back in San Diego recently 91x and Magic 92.5 did sound like a pillow or a thick object covering up a speaker. Thick and muddy. Love the music on both these station but the audio quality... P.U. Their internet streams sound quality is not any better.

One vote for both 91X and Magic 92.5

Years ago, a Jacor exec told me that 91X uses a special telephone link to send the signal to the tower, because the studios are too far away, and that on most days, you are hard pressed to notice the difference. However, on some bad weather occasions, they get bumped to lower grade lines affecting the sound quality. Because 92.5 is in the same building as 91X these days, I suppose it is possible that they too require such a hookup, but I do not know if that is the same today as it was back in the late 90s. It is just a working theory...

KFI is incredible...

At KOGO -- what would you expect from another radio professional who is WAY past his prime, Cliff Albert, leading the station? It is just like Dave Sniff at 760 KFMB...another corporate brown noser...who should just go into real estate.

All the stations in SD should try to tap into the expertise of the Engineer at KRTH, up north.

Best sounding FM I've ever heard!!

KRTH has reduced it's audio quality to that of a poor MP3 rendition. That's their stated goal. For GOOD audio, tune
KJLL 92.7, or KOLA 99.9(even better). And Walrus; until they change it again...

Walrus sounds terrible the highs are so compressed that it sounds like someone was setting the processor with Clevite headphones!

If you want to hear something decent listen to 88.3 or 100.7

We live in a world where people watch standard definition TV with the TV set to 16x9 widescreen so they "don't waste" that black space on either side of an SD picture. They don't care that it makes everything shorter and wider - they think it's HD TV!

When it comes to broadcast image and audio quality, 99.9 percent of the audience doesn't care or even know there is a difference.

You would be amazed at what the average listener can hear or doesnt hear. The misconception by modern broadcasters is that they don't pay that close of attention. But they do! When the station sounds bad they know it and when it sounds really good they know it. 933 and 94.1 are both squashed to hell, but they are processed properly for their formats. If they sounded terrible like say 91X their ratings would suffer because of the fatiquing audio. The station that defied this for years (but in a diary world but now with PPM its not true) was and is KyXy, it has always sounded terrible and they had high ratings. But thanks to Jeff and Jer, too drastic of music, new PPM, and horrible audio quality KyXy is not at the top anymore.

Women hear distortion better and are more fatigued by high levels of compression. You won't meet a typical woman listener that can tell you that, but it's what happens when you get into clipping and mashing.
