Worst 'Sting'

The exclusives thread got me thinking. What's the worst another station has gotten you. I remember a McDonald's remote where at the end of the 2 hours, the promo guy and I discovered the back of our stations van (which was parked on the far side of McD's for the signal) plastered with bumper stickers from the copmpetition. Live and learn.

One of our competitors was doing one of those "morning man on the roof- and I'm not coming down until we get x number of cases of food..." promotions for a local charity- can't remember which one. So we decided to 'help them out'- by having the Winn Dixie warehouse deliver an ENTIRE 54 FOOT TRACTOR TRAILER LOAD of canned goods to the station- in front of all 3 live tv crews and the outgoing Mayor of Charlotte to make the presentation! (Now the fun part of all this is I had gone to the warehouse much earlier that morning and plastered Magic 96 bumper stickers on EVERY case of food- the whole darn truckload!) Man was there smiles all around...until the cameras were turned off- then I heard words that would make a sailor blush! Ahhh, those were the days!

Years ago, a competing local radio station was offering $1 a gal gas at a local service station (this was in the mid-80's). You could come out and fill your tank for $1 a gal. Our radio station went to the service station and paid the $1 a gallon so the gas was free - on us! :D

Another time, a small group of us went to the same competing radio station (known for their arrogance), and filmed a video in their lobby in front of their receptionist. We used the film in a skit in our annual Christmas Video, accompanied by music from the "Pink Panther" movie. Everyone roared with laughter when they saw the part filmed in the other station's lobby. I remember their logo was huge on the reception desk. The poor receptionist didn't know what to think! :D

In 1988, 102 found out that the PD at TQR had a problem with "people of color." They hired a black guy to do overnights and renamed him with the TQR PD's name. It just about drove the guy insane with all of these people asking him why did he leave TQR and go to 102 or asking him when did he change races. The TQR PD's wife called the 102 PD and cussed him out for doing it.
