Worst tropo interference in years.

This morning tropo was so bad that I could visibly see KSMB's tower from I-10 yet barely hear the station through all the co-channel mix mosh. Nearly every station on the FM dial had some degree of co-channel interference in south central Louisiana this morning.

It was bad in North Texas too. The Houston stations were all over the Dallas stations and I live next to Dallas.

What were some examples? Did you pick up 94-5 The Buzz instead of KSMB? I can remember picking up KRUF 94.5 out of Shreveport when I was in Breaux Bridge.

I know Friday with the exception of my locals, every station had two or three stations on it. For example on 103.7 I had Houston, Hattiesburg, and Corpus Christi all in fighting for signal, was even catching the RDS signals on the Houston signals

It was several stations mixing, none were clear enough to ID.

On Thursday, I was walking in downtown (Houston) while listening to my Insignia portable HD radio and not only did KSMB prevent me from locking in on KTBZ-HD at 15 miles or so, I was hearing Bobby Novosad cut in.

KZMZ from Alexandria has been a easy catch lately.

BTW KTAL (98 Rocks) in Shreveport has been off the air for a few weeks ...anyone know whats going on? On radio-info they have a CP.

Tonight I am picking up Mexico all over the dial. And on analog tv. Weird to see tv on analog again!

To answer your question about 98 Rocks, they had a burnout in their transmission line on their tower. Funny thing is they are back on the air using the channel 6 'batwing' TV antenna no longer used by the TV station (KTAL) they rent tower space from. Good coverage too.

Thanks for the info. I have friend wondering what happened. I remember those classic antennas too. I suspect they're putting out much less than 50K because they're barely reaching Longview TX.
