Worst urban station?

What urban station do you think is the worst sounding?

My vote goes to WPEG Power 98 in Charlotte. Way too R&B heavy I'm surprised its not an urban AC. 96.1 The Beat sounded way better and I really miss it.

WWPW (104.3 the Beat) in Louisville was a complete trainwreck in every area including program content, sales, ratings and air staff. The station only lasted for 20 months and if should have left the airwaves sooner. It has to be one of the worst urban stations of all time.

The now-defunct POWER 104.1 in Hartford. They carried Steve Harvey in Morning Drive (after Star & Buc Wild got fired) and Wendy Williams in PM Drive. Those shows belong on Urban AC stations. Also they did not counter program CBS's Hot 93.7 at all.

Hot 93.7's slow jam show Late Night Love airs 10PM-1AM. The slow jam show on Power 104.1 Power After Hours aired 9PM-Midnight. So from 10PM-12AM there was no place to listen to Hip-Hop and the like.

Sundays on Hot 93.7:

5PM-6PM Urban Voices - A local Talk show geared towards the inner-city youth.
6PM-7PM Sunday School - An hour long Old School Block
7PM-9PM The Hot Regaeeton Show - 2 hours of Regaeeton and other Spanish Music.
9PM-11PM Regaee Riddims - 2 hours of Regaee Music

Sundays on Power 104.1:
5PM-7PM Old School
7PM-9PM Regaeeton
9PM-11PM Regaee

Again no place to hear Hip-Hop and R&B on the radio dial in Hartford from 5PM-11PM on Sundays.

Clear Channel pulled the plug on Power 104.1 after 4 years on the air. The flipped it to an Automated Rock format called "fm 104.1". They placed it in the the Aloha Trust and it was sold to a local owner who reverted it back to Modern Rock Radio 104.1, the station 104.1 was until September 2003 when Power came on.

Jamn 94.5 in Boston sounds almost like a CHR. Despite their Friday, and saturday night mix shows, as well as despite "Launch Pad" on late Sunday nights. Other than those, they sound way too CHR sounding.
They should be playing more New/Recent Hip Hop/Rap Music.

This is an unimaginative question that won't have much objectivity in the answers given. You might as well have asked 'What's the best toppings to put on a pizza' or 'Who's the most overrated act in ________ music right now'.

Go back a few pages on the Urban board or CHR Rhythmic board and youll see a list of the worst Urban stations in the U.S.

wdb2003 The "Worst Hip Hop Station" thread has been up since October 2009 right around the time these PDs of these so-called #1 for Hip Hop & R&B station were adding adding Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry into their rotation. It's on the Rhythmic board not Urban/UAC.

In bold thats what I just said

As the case for now defunct Power 104.1, and all the other stations that play slow jams without hearing hip hop on the radio, Urban Contemporary is defined as music from the following genres:

Blues
Soul
Dance
Gospel
Reggae
Rap
Jazz

So with that in mind a Urban Adult Contemporary station would using have Gospel programming Sunday Mornings, Jazz in the afternoon on Sundays. Plus have a Blues show on Saturday, like now defunct KSJL-FM San Antonio, Texas.

and for the weekdays would mix your Dance, and Soul music maybe a hint of Reggae.

Urban Contemporary stations would be a blend of Dance, Soul, Rap, Reggae, and Blues.

Rythmic Contemporary Hits would be a mixture of Dance Crossovers, Hip Hop, and R&B.

The old digital music express from Paragon Cable had Urban Channels.

One being Soul, Dance, Reggae, Rap, and Jazz those were the Urban Channels in the DMX lineup.
