Would a balanced Rhythmic work in the DC Market?

DC is a tricky and unique market. It seems like companies dont want to try a Rhythmic that plays a balanced list of Hip-Hop and Pop in DC. You either have to be straight Pop like WIHT, or pretty much be a Urban Rhythmic like WPGC. It seems like a city like DC would love the Rhythmic hits since we have a sizeable Latino, Black and White population, and more than enough 13-25 y.o from all those races to fuel a Rhythmic station.

Why hasn't anybody tried a Rhythmic station here that plays the likes of Drake, Trey Songz, Ke$ha, IYAZ, Jason Derulo, Rihanna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga all on one station...but stays away from extremes of the spectrum like Melanie Fiona, Robin Thicke, or Orianthi, Kings Of Leon?

If a Rhythmic came to DC and had a playlist similar to KPWR in LA, or WBBM in Chicago, don't you think it could work for DC? I think it could, I wish we had one. =/ Im tired of switching between Hot 99.5 and 955 PGC all the time.

Well forget WBBM, they lean way too Mainstream, but, something like WJMN in Boston, I believe that could work for DC.

I dont mean to post so many times, but for some reason I cannot edit my own post. WBTS/Atlanta is another good example of a playlist I would like to see in DC. If WBTS could work for Atlanta, than I think such a Rhythmic could work for DC.

When it signed on, Hot was more like this. When I first moved to DC in '03, I rarely heard a rock song on 99.5

Problem is, ratings were low. As 99.5 mainstreamed, the ratings went up.

Sorry but D.C. does not need a station like JAMN 94.5. If Boston had another full power CHR/R ( or Urban ), JAMN will be history.

DC had one. WPGC from 1987-1997 when WPGC had it's BEST ratings . Remember the 10.5? There's a huge hole in the DC radio market for this. But no one gets it!

See, thank you! And today would be the perfect time to have a true Rhythmic again. I know SO MANY PEOPLE who switch constantly between Hot 99.5 and WPGC because they want to hear people like Trey Songz, Drake, other artists that Hot 99.5 don't play, along with Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, IYAZ, other artists that WPGC don't play etc. A Rhythmic in DC would definitely work. If WBTS in Atlanta could be so successful, a Rhythmic here could definitely work.
