Would a jock with a British Accent take off in this market

I know in the past DA BUZZ 105.1 in the apple had an English accented female and being in the NYC area tonight the K-Rock night jock had either a British or Australian accent. I think one of the 3 rockers would do rather with a jock using either a fake or genuine British accent, someone from the UK. It just seems to go with the format....

Absolutely not. Corporate radio is bought and paid for by the new world order elite and is programmed to appeal to the lowest common denominator in order to continue the current degradation and demoralization of society and the nation.

In other words, in order to fully bankrupt America and crash the global economy, the people must be cattle-like, and their minds must be filled with meaningless, mind-numbing songs such as "I kissed a girl and I liked it" in order to further drive down our educational and economical ranking in the world.

They've done a pretty good job so far, America has lost about 50 places in rank over the past 50 years and shows no signs of slowing down. Nope. These parasites won't allow someone who sounds "educated" and speaks properly setting an example to the masses. That goes against everything these communists have accomplished since the 1950's.

You can expect more and more idiotic drivel and mass media mental meltdown mediocrity on the radio within the next few years to be sure to turn out the next generation of degenerates and morons. What a country.

The only reason it's allowed to happen in NY is the people are so far gone there that there is absolutely no hope of recovery. Your "British" jock in NY is actually mocking the masses and laughing all the way to the bank because there is no danger of saving NYC citizens from their own moral and intellectual demise.

There is actually a female British jock on a radio station in Nashville. And a country station, at that.

I dunno-how would it sound saying 'over dere by da wadder'?

There are 2 Australian working in NYC.One is on K Rock on the weekends,'Aussie' Dave Kirwan. While the other is Brad Blanks @ PLJ.A little closer to home, there is one in the Lehigh Valley area @ Lehigh University station WLVR.By the name of Shane who is on Monday's 12p - 3pm.I think an Australian accent would work a lot better than a British accent more because you don't hear it as much. And there is a major difference between the two of them.

Its so gimmicky, I think listeners wouldn't fall for it, and actually after awhile they get too sound pretty damn annoying. Could you imagine some Brit Bloke talking about the Eagles and American football... He would get eaten alive! I see a train wreck around the bend!

In the 1970s, the nighttime jock at WMMR had a British accent..I think his name was Luke O'Reiley

Absolutely, Luke O'Reilly! I thought he did an excellent job. There were some rumors that his accent was fake...yeah, like most radio rumors have credibility. Sounded real to me.

For a time, he had to pause between his first and last name when he introduced himself: "Luke......O'Reilly." A lot of younger listeners, not used to the British accent, were referring to him as Luke-O.

I really enjoyed him. I remember the release of Led Zepplin 4. He debuted in on WMMR and gave great insight into the band and the new tunes. If he's still with us, I hope he's doing well. He provided some very entertaining listening for me.

I am still here and breathing. The accent was not fake (I was born in Liverpool, grew up in Manchester and only arrived in the US in late 1968 for college). Thank you (rimember) LocalRadio for your kind comments. I didn't mind being adressed as Luke-O or Luko so much, it was when listeners would call up and ask to speak to Lou Karate that I became concerned and added the pause between my first and last names.

I thought that I would get eaten alive on my first show when (as a stranger to Philadelphia and arriving in town just 2 hours before going on the air) I had to read (off an advertisement hard copy) and then pronouce local place names such as Conshohocken and Schuykill.

I have to admit that many could find a Brit accent somewhat annoying after a while, although, suprisingly enough, nobody ever got in my face about it. I have very fond memories of Philadelphia, its people and the many friends I made there.

Oddly, I love Amercan football, find soccer boring and have been a fan of the New York Jets since the fall of 1968. I had the pleasure of meeting Joe Namath in the owner's box at Giants Stadium a couiple of years ago and had him sign a football for me.

I still see Carol Miller a couple of times a year when visiting New York.

Hello Luke!

Lou Karate…that’s classic!

It is so nice of you to stop by, Luke. Glad you’re doing well.

I lived in Williamstown, NJ when you were on WMMR. I was in college and had a night job in Atlantic City. You kept me company during that one-hour drive (down the Black Horse Pike) for quite some time. I always admired your natural manner on-air and your knowledge of the music and musicians. I learned a lot from you and had a great time listening too. I guess that’s a pretty good review for anyone in radio.

You and Ken Garland (who was also a great friend) are my two of my favorite radio entertainers. Despite the different accents, you had quite similar styles: natural, easy and fun.

Back in the 90’s, I had the opportunity to host on QVC UK for several weeks while I was training their presenters. I found it was fun having an “accent” on the air. It really made me stand out.

Thank you again for stopping by, Luke. All the best!
