Would Citadel put on an adult hits format here?

I've noticed in the last few days while surfing around that Intercom in Indianapolis has put on an Adult hits station called the Track. It seems to be a soft rock adult hits putting things on you may not hear on Jack that often.

Citadel in Knoxville has done the same thing by flipping WOKI to adult hits and calling it Earl FM. Earl FM claims to play everything. They apparently (even in automation mode) take requests. I don't really like Earl's imaging but I don't like the ABC Jacks either.

I'm not suggesting that this would beat Jack in the ratings maybe just be another alternative.

It would be nice. Jack seems to be creeping more into current and re-current territory. I heard Eminem on Jack the other day. That leaves only 97.1 and 105.9 playing music that old folks like me enjoy(and I'm only 30!)

Citadel isn't in the business of changing formats in Nashville. As long as Dave Kelly is alive, KDF will be country. As long as George Plaster is alive, GFX will be sports talk.

Locally, they're looking to get more signals, but nationally, Citadel is looking to sell the whole company. So, I don't see any change in the near future.

The best bet is that Cumulus loses out on the ABC sweepstakes, buys Citadel on the rebound, ships 92.1 & 106.7 to South Central, moves ESPN Radio to 104.5 and reformats 103.3 to 92Q's format. (And boy, wouldn't that be fun?...to see Plaster & crew end up with Cumulus anyway?)
______________

The Track 107.9 is getting bashed in my social circle for having a tiny playlist. I haven't listened all that much so I can't say I agree. Granted, my social circle is not in the target demo for WNTK. The people I know in their mid-thirties and forties, and their radio habits, one listens to Jack and the other to the Track. It is worth noting that the one listening to the Track says it is just because the radio in that particular place only gets a handful of signals.

My point: WNTK probably won't be the next radio phenomenon.

I've also heard rap/R&B on Jack lately; it just doesn't fit the format at all. I heard the Black-Eyed Peas and that was bad enough, but Eminem? I guess they're trying to get a few more ratings points.

Like you, I don't really like Knoxville Earl's imaging. But I do like their music mix a lot better than even Nashville's Jack.

I don't see Citadel setting up Earl here, since the latest trends look like KDF and the Wolf will forever be swapping 2nd and 3rd country spots, still on the higher side of the charts.

But then again, who saw South Central going Jack?

what a crazy idea THAT is...
______________

It won't work. They are going to alienate a lot more listeners than they gain, like me.

Both of the songs mentioned have been on since Jack signed on.

Jack plays some songs for a while then pulls them from the rotation (deaf lepard and guns and roses being the exception.) How long has it been since they've played the BeeGees? They will probably return to the rotation sooner or later.
