Would/Could/Should Paul Finebaum's ESPN/SECNet/Cumulus Show Play in Nasville?

Paul Finebaum's new Radio program begins Monday, Aug. 12. This is the program that will be simulcast on The SEC Network when it begins next year. The radio show is produced by ESPN and distributed by Cumulus. As ESPN wants to position Finebaum as "The Voice of the SEC"' Nashville would be a great market for the show. But which local sports station could/might air it? I found an interesting discussion here: http://puntonthirddown.com/?p=632

I can't see The Zone running a syndicated show into PM drive.

I do not enjoy calling driven sports talk. I want to hear the professionals talk.

I ageee with you there, Stod, I could not see the conclusion reached by the writer of the original article ever coming to pass. But I do think, as commenters pointed out, any local station that could find a place for at least a couple of hours of Finebaum before the afternoon drive kicks in could do well in doing so.

The problem with 102.5 The Game in carrying Paul Finebaum's Show live is that 102.5 The Game is now the flagship for the Dave Ramsey Show and then they made such a big deal about George Plaster's return to the airways and the forming of the Game Sports Network. By doing away with either or both of those shows to carry Paul Finebaum live, they would being admitting that they made a mistake by adding one or both of those shows.

I would hope not. Nashville is too large of a market for syndicated afternoon drive. I think The Zone should be local till at least 7PM. I don't think the DP show makes sense, but I guess the ratings say otherwise.

Why would Clay walk away from the Nashville job?

Would a Clay Travis decision/departure from 3HL force The Zone to consider Finebaum?

stod, check message thread Clay Travis on RD Nashville main page. There is talk of Travis bolting from 104.5 when contract is expired. Unless I missed an update he is staying, my question is what happens in his absence?

Clay has made a name for himself, built a platform, created a persona, connected to the right people, has landed a network radio gig and a network TV gig, and is movin' on up. Whatever he chooses to do next will be whatever he sees is best for his continued climb up the sports personality ladder. If it is best he continue with The Zone, he will. If it's going to best for him to take over for Rome, he'll do that. The point is he has successfully maneuvered his career to the point where, once his Zone contract expires, he'll have choices available that will likely outweigh afternoon drive in Market 45. So that's why most observers think he'll be moving on to the next big thing.

If you haven't read the article and comments posted at the link in the first message of this thread, please go back and so. This covers some of the ground you are trying to cover again. I do not support the author's conclusion, though, I tend to think more like the first commenter to the article, though not entirely. Kuharsky seems to me a likely person to move into 3HL. I also believe The Zone would never turn over its afternoon drive to a syndicated show. I am of the opinion that if/when Finebaum is heard here, it'll be his first two hous airing live before afternoon drive, and/or some or all of the show on delay. Or some of the other scenarios mentioned by the commenters.

I started to use Tony Barnhart as an example of a guy that was doing some of the same things as Clay and stayed on local radio, then it hit me Atlanta is top 10 market.

The F-Baum will drop on SportsTalk 830 as Cromwell indeed signs up to carry The Paul Finebaum Show in Nashville. No announcement of a start date yet.

Maybe 104.5 the Zone will actually start talking about SPORTS again during Afternoon drive time instead of POP CULTURE, TRIVIA CONTESTS and "BREAKING BAD" UPDATES. I listened this afternoon from 4 PM to about 4:45 PM and SPORTS was never discussed during the entire 45 minutes that I listened to before I turned it off. Instead, the 3HL crew was discussing which states have the ugliest people, along with Clay Travis' Smart Ass Remarks. When I turn on to 104.5 the Zone, I want to hear SPORTS TALK, not a discussion on POP CULTURE. If I want hear Pop Culture discussed, I'll turn over to 107.5 The River or Mix 92.9.

Since Dave Ramsey will be moving his show over to WLAC in January, I can see Cromwell moving "The Paul Finebaum Show" from the Game2 on 94.9 FM to the Game 102.5 in Dave Ramsey's spot or at least simulcast on both the 102.5 and 94.9 signal.
