Where these folks can shine is in lengthy broadcasts ... yet keeping you engaged. I get frustrated with Raible's Seahawks thing too, but have to hand it to him on the SeaFair coverage every year. Not that repetitive. Far toss from NEWS ... but I reluctantly admit every year it's a good broadcast.
The WORST Seattle journalism I ever saw was coverage of the four firefighters' funeral from Pang fire. The anchors all felt compelled to yap non-stop; and kept repeating one fact: their names. "We are now watching the processional for .... and ... and ... and .... Here comes the flag, at this ceremony for ... and .... [One would think after 90 minutes of having their names repeated over and over I'd have them committed to memory!!!]
Outside the market...but was VERY impressed with the extended coverage Brokaw did on NBC. Would always weave anecdotes and not rely solely on analysts to fill time. It's THAT kind of coverage I'll take over the gimmicks of wandering cameras, etc. --- show me you know what you're talking about and I'll repay your preparation with loyalty. Go into a 10 minute news wheel, etc. and I'm bailing on broadcast and going to 'net. Fill political coverage with yammering analysts and I'm gone.....
