Would somebody sleep with somebody or say something stupid...

Things have been really boring around the Emerald City of late, could somebody please sleep with somebody, or say something stupid on air and get suspended or fired.

We could really use the material to talk about

News Style??

I can try floating another "anyone want to discuss?" topic and see if it gets some traction. Problem is whenever someone tries it .... no one cares...and the board goes back to "you suck" ... "no YOU suck" ... "you suck more" degree of maturity!!!

So we'll give it a shot:

KOMO-TV seems to be in love with the Fox background of their new station & news leadership. Live standups going to LOTS of motion with hand-held cameras ... and all the gimmicks of appealing to an audience like it's supposed to think they are watchin MTV.

Do you like this sort of thing? Completely turns me off (causing me to return that favor) ... but makes me wonder if you find ANY broadcast news product you like? News doesn't have to be BORING to be appealing; but since pop culture seems to be the staple of most "news" attributions these days, wondering what your take on all this happens to be....??

I think it's interesting how interesting you think this is. I don't really care. Sorry. News is news no matter how you dress it up and present it. I'm sure there are more compelling ways to deliver than others, but I just don't think I'm qualified to know what's effective or not. I prefer to get my news off the internet.

Hey check out the post on the KBSG thread....Now there is a topic When did KIRO actually give up on a music format? Was it the 80's? Did KUBE force KIRO to stop playing music and lock themselves into a talk format. Was music played in the 80 between interviews and news just early bumper music?????

Will Bonneville International Corporation shock us all and flip KIRO AM to Radio Disney.

There I think I just covered the requirement for a post on this thread.

LBB - TV news has the same look & feel it had in the '70s - "Anchorman" with Will Farrell was a documentary! So anything that is different is fine with me...

You're bang on with you assessment.

Never understood the appeal for Steve "Have I Ever Told You I Played for The Seahawks" Raible. The guy has no news credentials. KOMO has tossed Dan Lewis in front of an ambulance or two, and KING has given Dennis Bounds high-profile assignments before (albeit neither recently).

Look at the bios of all three on their respective web sites. There's more text about how Raible is a former Seahawk more than his journalistic accomplishments. With all the shameless award mentions he's got, all that's missing is "1995 Winner of The Issaquah Albertson's Easter Egg Coloring Contest."

But alas, there is some journalistic credentials to be found. He's "covered" stories from Tokyo to Moscow and "covered" the Olympics and presidential campaigns.

Please -- reading off the teleprompter and voicing video feeds from Reuters doesn't count as "covering."

Where these folks can shine is in lengthy broadcasts ... yet keeping you engaged. I get frustrated with Raible's Seahawks thing too, but have to hand it to him on the SeaFair coverage every year. Not that repetitive. Far toss from NEWS ... but I reluctantly admit every year it's a good broadcast.

The WORST Seattle journalism I ever saw was coverage of the four firefighters' funeral from Pang fire. The anchors all felt compelled to yap non-stop; and kept repeating one fact: their names. "We are now watching the processional for .... and ... and ... and .... Here comes the flag, at this ceremony for ... and .... [One would think after 90 minutes of having their names repeated over and over I'd have them committed to memory!!!]

Outside the market...but was VERY impressed with the extended coverage Brokaw did on NBC. Would always weave anecdotes and not rely solely on analysts to fill time. It's THAT kind of coverage I'll take over the gimmicks of wandering cameras, etc. --- show me you know what you're talking about and I'll repay your preparation with loyalty. Go into a 10 minute news wheel, etc. and I'm bailing on broadcast and going to 'net. Fill political coverage with yammering analysts and I'm gone.....
