Would the Brew work in Cincinnati?

Not that CC would flip 92.5 or 94.1 to a Brew format, which is what CC did in Columbus and few other cities.Could it work? an 80s rock formatted station.

YES

But, they'll never do it because of the potential harm to WEBN and The FOX. If WAQZ needs something to keep it alive after Howard leaves, this could be it. Although they have pretty good cumes in the afternoon that equal the mornings. Maybe they need Mancow on 97.3?

Maybe the new owners of 96.5 would like to do it, depending on what their strategy is.

Re: YES

It would definitely work. When you talk about artists like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Scorpions, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, etc. You're talking about groups that sold tens of millions of albums in their time. There is no outlet for this in Cincinnati except for Big Hair Wednesday on EBN. Then you have to suffer through Mr.K and his comments about how much the music sucks. The Fox is flat out terrible for a Classic Rock station. Their is almost no 80's on that station at all. It's the same old stuff, I never hear anything on that station that makes me go "WOW! I haven't heard that one in a long time".
I think it would be huge and the female numbers would almost match the male.

Re: YES

What if the new owners take 96.5 "Classic Hits?"...not a repositioned oldies station, but a popular hit station that focuses on 80's and early nineties. It would compliment MOJO and WARM and give up the fight with B105 for a more compatible format with the other two. That would leave CC with the opportunity to chip away at 'UBE with MIX. Couldn't do any worse than what they have now. (Well, maybe I oughta re-think that...)

Re: YES

Isn't MAX FM kind of filling that gap though?

99.5 has a better signal in Lexington KY than in Cincinnati. As far as the susquehanna sale, latest rumor is that Entercom is out of the running. That leaves Cumulus or a sale back to the employee's of susquehanna. 96.5 is ripe for a format change if it were to happen in the future.

WCIN?

Re: YES

I love the idea of a Classic Hits format, but would it be set apart enough from The FOX and WGRR? A "Brew" type format would be something completely different. But, again, there's that word STRATEGY!

No, I was thinking WCKY 1530. After listening to that station I need a Brew :)

MAX doesn't fill that void. It plays too much non-rock stuff (i.e. disco and mainstream pop) and goes back to the 60s.

Someone mentioned putting it on 96.5. That's the former frequency of 96 ROCK. Back in the day, that station hung its hat on the 80s hair bands, pounding out Iron Maiden, the Crue, Dio, Sammy Hagar, et al.

It would be a nice touch of nostalgia to bring that music back on that frequency.

Re: YES

If CC were to decide it wants a younger Classic Rock audience for 92.5, I can see a possibility of them making the switch. All bets are off on the local Susquehana stations. <P ID="signature">______________

It'll totally work. JJ Gerard left Cincinnati for the Brew in Milwaukee. He's had tremendous success as has the station. One reason we (I say we because I'm his wife) wanted to leave Cincinnati was there hasn't been anything fresh there in years! The Brew would work well. If something like this had been in Cincinnati I think he would have stayed. It's fresh, it's fun, and it was worth all the snow to make the jump up here. Glad to hear it's being discussed in Cincinnati. Hi to all our old friends! Karen & JJ

After all of the oldies stations are purged because of "shifting demographics", classic rock will be the next format to go. All the young hipsters at the ad agencies will see no need to buy time on stations who cater to old farts with gray ponytails! (This post is really a potshot at the agencies).

Nice to know that JJ (B105 Y96) & you are doing well in Milwaukee. I have to agree with your comments on Cincinnati Radio. It is stale and really needs some freshening up and the Brew would certainly be a step in that direction.

JJ is an AWESOME guy! We are so lucky to have a down to earth person on our air. Thanks Cincy! His wife however....(HA HA) Well Karen how about those deep fried Milky Way Bars at State Fair??

Love ya Karen....

Signed your Loving Brew Engineer

The Brew would play well in Cincy. But it is how it is marketed and the people behind it must be REAL and have a passion for the format and radio itself. Milwaukee has that now. It is a fun station to be a part of!

How about 99.3 in Aurora/Lawrenceburg flipping and calling it "The Distillery" since Seagrams is right in downtown? :p
