Would think 1200 stays comedy but... (sports?)

The comedy format is a Clear Channel initiative, so it's likely not going anywhere.

If CC really needs to clear FSR in Boston, however, they do have a second AM that likely isn't making any money...

They're better off dropping Yahoo Sports Radio. Especially if WWZN dubs themselves "NBC Sports Radio Boston."
 
I find Yahoo Sports Radio to be the most listenable of the sports nets. ESPN is awful. Fox is only on the weekends & weeknights on WSAR & wasn't too impressed with it. Of course, it's a C.C. product so it'd clear.
 
That all comedy format is a nice alternative. I was in Boston last week and found myself listening to 1200 for about an hour. I do wish they would announce the comics before the clip,rather than after.

I hope the format stays. With the CBS sports network two weeks away,there is going to be an overload of sports stations nationwide. This is hard to believe, but not everyone enjoys sports. When I scan the AM band I skip any religious, foreign language and sports stations..which doesn't leave a whole lot...but it's nice to have 1200 as a nice alternative.

I avoid religious, foreign language (although I do enjoy Mexican music, but none of the Spanish-language stations in this area play it), and right-wing talk, which pretty much leaves me only sports on medium wave, which is fine because I'm a sports fan. I tried 1200 for about 15 minutes on my last trip up to Boston but quickly lost interest and flipped back to FM.
 
The calls of 1510 are now WUFC (and btw a couple times in the past couple days they were off,
maybe a bit more flooding at the xmtr site?)

Yes--have heard other stations do same thing. If they do it before some may say to themselves, Oh I hate this guy/gal and tune out. After? Because some people may have never heard the comic before, and stay tuned to hear the name. (And some ads, no?)_

Very true...a bunch of stations that were ESPN, etc., have rebranded as "Sports Radio (freq)"
often, with a similar logo feature three "volume bars", a trademark of CBS I think. Example:

Again, now WUFC--and when they added NBC Sports, they did rebrand as such--on air
and also on facebook and on a site that probably still says This Is My Site. NBC Sports
will add weekday programs in a couple months.

As for 1200, I have said I think they'll keep comedy but who knows, maybe do Fox Sports to
clear it? But was talking with @bostonradio on twitter and we think they probably won't
(station #5!)...it may be as likely as WBZ 1030 flipping to all-Brother Stair. (Who is still
on 1510 some nights.)

Too much sports? Ah but the ad agencies and big companies disagree. They all want a piece of the pie in this "me too" world, ESPN, Fox/CC, CBS/Cumulus, NBC/DialGlobal and Yahoo..

I was thinking a Classic Country format. It would sort of be targeting the same demo as the Comedy format without cannibalizing any of the other CC stations in the Boston cluster. CC has some great Classic Country AMs which could be simulcasted on 1200.

But aren't they kind of stuck with the Comedy as Matty’s name is still on the product?
 
Classic Country or True Oldies. There is no oldies station in Boston now. Putting on Scott Shannon's channel would fill a void and probably could be done very cheaply. It would be nice to have a live morning, and perhaps afternoon show.

When WLS-FM ran Scott's channel they had much better ratings than they have now playing Classic Hits.

Those WOULD be nice choices! Unfortunately, a format such as Classic Country tends to "burn" quickly. Oldies programmers don't seem to be creative enough to keep their format fresh and exciting. Hearing the same 300 songs over and over again doesn't cut it for me, but it works for some stations/markets. Radio folks and "regular" folks don't listen the same way.

Also, country had such limited appeal in Boston during its years on stations like WCOP, WDLW and WBOS that there probably aren't enough potential listeners in the market to make classic country work. Here in Connecticut, country took off in the late '80s when WWYZ flipped, but we've never had a classic country station.
