Would This Be A Good Hot AC Playlist?

This is just part of a good playlist for a Hot AC station, this type of Hot AC wouldn't play much Rhythmic besides a couple which just touch Rhythmic such as "Apologize". This Hot AC wouldn't play a song for example "DJ Got Us Falling In Love" - Usher. What do you guys think?

Apologize - One Republic

Wherever You Will Go - The Calling

Someday - Sugar Ray

Come On Get Higher - Matt Nathanson

Whatever It Takes - Lifehouse

Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis

Name - Goo Goo Dolls

Light On - David Cook

You And Me - Lifehouse

Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind

Marry Me - Train

Every Morning - Sugar Ray

With Arms Wide Open - Creed

I'll Be - Edwin McCain

Jumper - Third Eye Blind

Slide - Goo Goo Dolls

The Reason - Hoobastank

Barely Breathing - Duncan Sheik

That looks a lot like KOSO in Modesto or the new KWJZ in Seattle. However, they both lean Alt, your list seems to lean AC. I like it, there is a lot of people not into the rhythmic sound and they are getting left out of HotAC & CHR.

Looks a lot like Mix XM 22... they play a lot of recurrent/gold... I noticed no 80s in there... I personally think 80s should only be in for flavor or speciality shows at this point on Hot AC.

Too gold heavy for me...

I agree.

I agree as well. I also think that in 2011 it's almost impossible to program a Hot AC without rhythmic product.

I think you can do it with Alternative product too (like about 20 Modern ACs out there), but yeah almost seems like it's one or the other

Except for the Third Eye Blind, that playlist almost seems AC

Right. There's no Usher or Rihanna or Katy to help break some of that soft stuff up.

Thats only part of the list. And Usher, Rhianna, etc are to CHR/Rhythmic and wouldn't be played.

Other artists that would be played (list not in any order):
Theory Of A Deadman
3 Doors Down
Jordin Sparks
Gin Blossoms
Sick Puppies
Daughtry
Shinedown
Colbie Caillat
Jimmy Eat World
All American Rejects
Bruno Mars
Coldplay
The Fray
Switchfoot

I think its far off AC now and even more on a higher end of Hot AC. Also Im not sure if I'd have the country cross overs like Rascal Flats, Lady Antablem, etc. Would they work in this mix?

Hot AC has evolved. Even the gold-based Hot AC stations like Mix 1077 in Dayton play the rhythmic that's on Hot AC now. Let's take a look at the charts:

Pink is #1 with Raise Your Glass, Katy Perry is #2 with Firework... both of these songs are CHR hits.

Looking at the rhythmic artists,

Bruno Mars has two songs in the top 10. Just The Way You Are at #4 (that was #1 for weeks, btw) and Grenade at #10.

Taio Cruz - #12 with Dynamite (peak of #5)
Rihanna - #14 with Only Girl (peak of #11)
Usher/Pitbull - #17 (peak of #13)
Nelly - #18 with Just A Dream (peak of #16)
Ke$ha - #23 with We R Who We R (peak of #21)
Cee Lo Green - #25 with Forget You (at its peak)
Britney Spears - #26 with Hold It Against Me (at its peak)
Enrique/Luda - #29 (at its peak)

Sure, the rhythmic songs don't ever get as big as the Train or OneRepublic single, but for those songs to be doing so well on Hot AC is pretty impressive. Most Hot AC stations are playing these songs now and getting more riskier. Sure, there are those that don't play 'em, but if you're trying to follow the Hot AC trend, sprinkle in more currents and don't avoid the rhythmic, the bigger ones anyway such as Taio, Rihanna, Usher, Nelly, and maybe Ke$ha - depending on the market.

I know not in all markets you will hear the same rhythmic songs. I noticed in Boston on Mix 104.1 they are playing "What's My Name" Rihanna feat. Drake and a older song "Dirty Christina Aguilera feat. Redman according to YES.com. Those two songs I wouldn't ever think of hearing on a Hot AC.

I don't know...I think Hot AC needs to be more cutting-edge than that - I think your options are either play Rhythmic stuff, new Triple A tracks, or new Alternative tracks - unless you're in a really conservative area

I think the Mix stations in Texas are still pretty similar to what you're describing - also some really conservative Hot ACs in the Midwest, but I'm pretty sure a bunch of them have folded and flipped to AC/Gen X/etc.

I think this is a pretty good mix because it balances '90s and '00s music. My only thought is that maybe you could mix in a couple songs that are currents or recurrents and swap out a couple late '90s songs for early '90s songs.

I think this is a GREAT playlist. I agree with others, more currents would be great for the ratings, but certainly don't throw out these, either. Use the 90's and early 2000's as the 'spice,' but not as the pie itself.

Perhaps go to Yes.com and search WCFS. I think this is the type of playlist you are going after. It is an ideal playlist for a great Hot AC that doesn't want to go near the rap.

WNIC is the one I'd use if we're talking about Fresh stations. WCFS is good for "without any rhythmic" but the fact is, you're gonna need rhythmic on Hot AC. WNIC balances this well.

I have listened to Fresh 102.7 and a bunch of the songs I listed are played and mixed in very well with current songs play on the station. And I just checked out Fresh 105.9 Chicago and they have a good playlist since they tweaked their format.
