With the Edge shuffle weekend got me thinking, what if a station did this:

Took songs from all genres (top40, rock, alternative, dance, hip hop, etc) from the 80's, 90's and then put their music system on shuffle... would you listen to a station where you wouldnt know what would be next? What if they took that concept and added killer personalities, either local or syndicated. Would you listen? Would u rather a station with a canned music playlist or would u rather a station where anything and everything could be played at any given time?

KCDX does this now with classic rock, but with no jocks or ads.

You mean like 1960s/early '70s Top-40 AM radio? If it was still viable that format never would have died, which it did about 30 years ago.

But with the success of jack and jack type stations, it seems though the listener wants more variety, they want the radio to be like their IPODS and to be random, not the same song over and over and over again. Thats my point

I would listen, if it was programed the right way.

What is with stations trying to emulate iPods, to the point of using positioners involved the actual word "iPod"? If I already have an iPod, why do I need your station to do a knock-off of what I already paid for?

Not that I think your idea is without merit.
